Title: Turbo hot smell?!
Post by: Perryd84 on 14 April 2015, 08:42
I got my car mapped a while back and it's been running perfect no issues but recently with the weather getting warmer when I get out the car there is a hot smell coming from the engine bay which is stronger towards the turbo so I'm guessing it's that?

Any ideas what could be causing this or what I can do to prevent the turbo over heating as I really don't want to be replacing it!!

Also I'm not a boy racer so I don't go ragging it from the second I get in it to the second I pull up I'm to old for that s**t

how long a journey are you talking, does it get to 90 on the temp gauge?
have you looked around the turbo for any oil/coolant leaks?

Only shortish journeys maybe 20-30min max?!

Haven't had a good look but been meaning to. I need to get a service so I'm getting oil changed and will check it out better when it's on the ramp.

Also take a good look around the rocker cover. The crappy gasket could be weeping oil down the back onto the manifold or turbo. Its not so easy to see the area, but with engine cold get your head right over the back. Run your finger along look for leaks, there's also a small heat shield fairly high up where it can accumulate.
