Hello, I'm still having trouble finding out why my car keeps eating maf sensors, (1.8t Aum) I've put 4 new genuine ones on in the past year and they last a month tops before they compleatly go, within a week the car starts to get a flat spot, and by the End of the month it gets that bad that I get about 2psi of boost and the car runs like a pig and it's just about un drivable, I disconnect it at it runs perfect, it's not remapped, I just have a few basic mods, but it's done it ever since I brought it, and it was standard when I got it, has anyone had this problem? It's becoming that much of a pain it's making me want to get rid of it haha, I have vag com I have no fault codes only one witch is because of my decat, but with the maf disconnected, the tc light comes on and I get a system to rich and a maf sensor implausible signal or something, really stuck now, any help will be much appreciated, cheers

What sort of filter do you have on it?
Some of the aftermarket ones which you have to oil can corrode or cause the MAFs to fail prematurely...
-
I have a honda s2000 on it it now but I did have the standard airbox and it still did itt then
-
The Green S2000 filters are not oiled and the red ones are from what I have seen, the problem with it not being oiled is that small particles can still still get in, the oiled ones pull the oil in... both will prematurely kill the MAF.
Have you tried cleaning the MAF rather than replacing it? CNC cleaner I think its called is what I use
-
I do have a red one but I'm pretty sure it wasn't oiled as it was dry and you can normally tell if they have been oiled, I've literally tried everything and it still keeps doing it,
-
They don't look oiled, but I'm 99.9% sure they are.
get some of the CLC cleaner and give that a whirl and see how you get on, how long have you had the S2000 filter on, as they are paper they are classed as a serviceable item so need replacing yearly if not sooner
-
Yeah I've tried it already mate, what confuses me is why it still did the same thing with the standard airbox, I like the noise of the cone filter, can you recommend a set up that still gives you good noise but won't kill the maf? Thanks
-
If you've killed a few MAFs its usually from oil based filters because as it sucks the air in it loosens the oil and the oil attaches the wire, the MAF works by heating a thin piece of wire up and as the air flows over it, it cools it down, more speed = more air
You want a non oiled filter really, I tried loads of options and finally settled again on a smoothed airbox with a DSG intake and a pipercross panel filter
-
Ok mate thanks for the info, what do you think to your current set up? Do you get much turbo noise?
-
If you want noise, either a cheap cold air intake with a decent cone on the end or carbonio will be your best bet. My carbonio is fairly loud lol
-
What's a carbonio? I've just got my s2000 filter on a reducer attached to the maf, have you got any pictures of your set up mate?

I have ramair

That's a big filter haha! I took my filter off and maf again today to have a look and a clean, the maf is like new and the inside of my creation motorsport tip is bone dry not greasy at all, I plugged it back in and drove home from work and it ran a pig trying to accelerate with only two psi max of boost and it having massive lag and then suddenly shoot to 10 psi and take off, but I can floor it and nothing happen just 2psi and it be very slow, so I pulled over and disconnected it and it ran like a dream again! Mental. I don't know what to do as I don't wanna spend loads of money on a new intake and it not make a difference witch I think might happen as it was doing this before I put the cone filter on, suppose I could do a proper boost leak test? Could it be that?
-
You know what, I haven't got any pics of the engine bay since I fitted it lol
-
Haha go take some and post em up! :)
-
I do get quite a lot of noise still, depends what your after I hate the dv noise tbh constant ptschhh did my head in, especially since stage 2. I went with the airbox and pipercross panel filter with dsg intake, not the cheapest setup but happy in the knowledge its as quiet as I'm likely to get but its still noisy, if I could get silent I would lol
-
Yeah I love the sound of the turbo, think Im going to get a green s2000 filter and a new maf, do you think it's a good idea to run the filter infront of the bumper? Would that make a difference because I normally have it on the end of the maf? Cheers
-
depends who you speak to
I haven't seen any gains from one that's on a MAF to behind the headlight. The Turbo heats the air as soon as it hits it so whatever is your preference really
