Anyone gone LED on the H7s the GTI/GTD/R uses for the static cornering lights?
I saw these and they looked canny (a little pricey, but if you only buy them once), assuming that the LED column's girth can fit through the aperture in the headlamp assembly.

Good find MH.
They look like they'd fit the aperture ok as I've changed mine for updated bulbs and there seems to be plenty of room to manoeuvre a bulb in there.
They're not that much different in price to a set of updated halogen bulbs from a decent manufacturer.

They'd probably be easier to get in from a length point of view, they look a little shorter than the usual halogen versions. One side in particular (I forget which) has less room behind the bulb housing to get it manoeuvred in straight (I scraped the opaque paint on the end of the bulb just a little getting it in).
There were cheaper LED bulbs even from the same place, but they looked cheaper - the alloy column didn't look as nicely cast/polished, whether that would really matter operationally is debatable, but there is probably a reason the one I listed cost twice as much.
The Lumens are well down though with these LED bulbs - 450 lumens vs 1600 on something like Osram nightbreakers, as they're static cornering lights rather than the main source of lighting for the car, maybe they're output isn't massively critical.

It was quite a while ago I fitted my Osrams (a year and a half) so can't remember a huge amount about the fitting but what I do remember is that it was a million times easier than getting the uprated bulbs in my first mk6 (halogen lights) which were a real pig to fit. The mk7 ones I remember being surprisingly easy so fingers crossed the LED bulbs will slide in ok - we just need a guinea pig now... :whistle:
You're quite right about light output, these are just cosmetic bulbs really and the reason most of us uprated the H7's in the first place was to try to get the light colour nearer to those of the xenon bulbs and LED U lights.
Funnily enough having been in a brief drive in a Leon with LED headlamps and obviously a few VW's with Xenons headlights I think I still prefer halogen bulbs (uprated from crappy factory ones obviously) as the cut off is more gradual. On main beam the MK7 Xenons are awesome but I find the cut off too sharp on dipped beam (living in a hilly and bendy part of the world). I didn't get to see the Leon on full beam but would assume it similar to the Xenons and again the cut off is too sharp for my liking - I like to read the road ahead not just 30 feet ahead! :grin:

hmm they look a quality piece MH, but also look like they would give a canbus error on your screen. Does it mention canbus anywhere in the advert?

I don't think it does, would have to check that out.
