Title: GTD, GTI/R Replica...
Post by: MochaD on 11 April 2015, 10:12
Hi,

after a month of deciding what to spend my £15+G & growing budget on, I've decided a MK6 Golf is the car I want, I just don't know how to proceed from here. I love the economy of the GTD, the look of the twin exit pipes of the GTI and the front bumper of the R so looking to have a mix of all 3, but will probably just buy a 3dr, black, 11/12 GTI and stick a R front bumper on it with a few other subtle mods. I can see the GTD not satisfying my right foot and if could justify the economy of the R I would have already bought a S3 lol.

My main focus right now is finding the right car but the prices vary so drastically and/or any I'm seeing are a fair old trek to go look at to confirm the little things that niggle me about an advert are founded or not.

This look may have already been done but I'd still like to do something similar...

Id get an R, if your buying the Mk6, you can get a pretty decent price on them at the minute and I think you would just be saying to yourself after 6 month why didn't I.

Granted the fuel will be worse but not that much worse, your talking maybe 30-40 miles less per tank, that's not a deal breaker in my book. Plus you NEVER see them, I love that in a car I see a Mk6 R maybe once every few months and I see a Mk6 GTI about once every few weeks so that gives me the feeling of something abit more exclusive.

As for the Mk 7 R Jesus I see about 3 a day they are shifting those things which is good for me cos the second hand market will be flooded

S3's are nice but as above much more common, well in Leeds anyway. Plus I just prefer the R design so, just my opinion...

That thought does keep running round my head tbh, what also puts me off the R is what puts me off the S3 and other such cars is things like long term maintenance and service costs, I feel like the GTI would be a better car for me in the long run. Will have to do some reading up as until now I've never seriously considered an R.
