Title: Deposit Loss when cancelling order?
Post by: Mr Savage on 10 April 2015, 15:45
Hello guys,

Frankly I'm losing patience with my dealer (again) and I'm now thinking about cancelling my order and popping down to Audi for the RS3.

Where do you stand in getting your deposit back if your build week isn't confirmed yet? This is with a franchised main dealer.

With a good reason to cancel (long wait), and the fact that BW isn't confirmed, the dealership have absolutely no good reason to retain your deposit - what's the wait so far Mr Savage?

It's not so much the wait. I expect that. It's the way my salesman never answers his phone, never returns calls when he says he will, keeps me on hold for weeks until I have to ring him back up. Im still waiting for him to get back to me on this tech pack addition which I asked him about 3 weeks ago!

They charged me twice the agreed deposit and put me in overdraft as I was not expecting that amount of money to be taken out my account.

They haven't sent me my new contract with the agreed deposit (upon collection).

The list goes on and on...

Argh!

Sounds like u should cancel sharpish! The problems you're having now don't bode well for the future.

Annoying but not particularly unusual. Sadly you cant rely on e-mails when dealing with these people - they are drowning in them and the pressure is on them to get new sales rather than deal with the ones they already have. Find out when he is in and deal with at all face to face - that will sort it!

Only get the deposit back if you really no longer want the car!

As he ^ said! Even when picking up my GTD, the salesman's phone was ringing off the hook. They're pretty busy for much of the time. You should expect a status update every fortnight until the car is actually in the process of getting built and transported. Doesn't explain their cock-up of takiing your deposit twice and putting you in the red though!

Do you think the service would be any better at Audi? I went into an Audi dealer with the full spec of an RS5 I wanted, all he had to do was confirm the price and availability, that was in October and I'm still waiting for that phone call

In terms of the deposit then if no BW has even been confirmed then they should, just out of common decency, give it you back.

Good point. Probably the same everywhere to be fair. It just really frustrates you. No where else would ever get away with the level of service they give!

Mr Savage:

Get an S3 or an RS3 Sportback as they will be better made than a VW. Only problem is that they both look frumpy especially the Sportback.

You are working on the pretence Audi are going to be more organised on the RS3, Audi dealer I have spoken to said they are awaiting spec conformation

Really liked the RS3 at Geneva but a car i'd want to try before I buy

That's really bad service.  I have great sympathy for you, it must be incredibly frustrating

I know we knock dealers and often deservedly so.  But I have to say, so far my salesman has been very good, much better than I expected, and this is a broker dealer, the main southern DTD dealership, so pretty busy no doubt.  And I have not yet met him in the flesh.

By contrast to you, I was given my unconfirmed build week and tracker number the day after placing the order by phone. Paperwork was emailed through promptly and when I phoned him about the tech pack he was busy but phoned me back within a couple of hours.  I then got a full email response within a couple of days.  Since then there's been a few emails back and forth and never much delay in getting a reply.  The answers from VWUK may not have been the best, but I cannot fault the dealer himself. As I've said before, he was recommended to me by Steven (p3asa) on here, and I'm very grateful to him for it.  So have to give credit where credit is due.  No help to you Mr Savage but there are some decent ones out there.

I really hope things improve for you but if you're not getting any joy then maybe looking elsewhere is the right thing to do for you.

I would out of principle cancel the order and get my deposit back and go to another dealer whether thats VW or Audi.  I would also understand that it may not be in my best interest to do so (may delay the new car further) but i would have to take a stand on poor service and walk.  I would make the dealer principle aware of my decision and reasons for it too.

I am speaking as someone who didn't bother my dealer from purchase to collection at all.  I was in no hurry and had no expectations,  i didn't badger the sales guy for anything as far as i can remember, so i'm not one of the many annoying customers that badger the sales guy every week wanting updates.  However it sounds like you are being treated below your expectations and without a BW what have you got to loose?  Its not like the car is due soon anyway.

You could end up with a car that doesn't have the right options by the sounds of the slack attitude from the sales person.  I am sure he isn't doing it on purpose, but pressure and work load can take its toll.  Either way tell them you want to walk and see how quick they magic a BW    .... or not

There are good and bad dealers out there. I have at last found decent one in my opinion but it's a bit like recommending a restaurant to someone. Just because you had a good meal does not mean the person you told to go has the same result !!
I have had my last three cars from the same dealer and it's not in my home town so it's decent round trip to visit and dealt with the same salesman too. First impresisions do count. When I was looking to replace my first Scirocco I was trying to find a Indium Grey one to see in the flesh. In short it was late on Sunday afternoon and a Bank Holiday the next day. He said the car I was looking for was not on site as it was the sales managers car at the commercial vehicle site across town. He asked me if I would be free the next day and said he would ring me later. (16:30 on a Sunday...Yeah, Right) to be fair he rang and said he had arranged to drive to the others guys house and swap cars for the day so I could see it and take a test drive. He also managed to pull a DSG Scirocco out of the hat too which another branch in the same group had failed to do for over a month and the rest is history
With all orders he has set out his stall and said he will contact me every two weeks until confirmed build then up it to every week until delivery but feel free to ring or email if you have any other issues and he has always been good as his word and always ring back or emails within an hour or so.
I just hope he never moves on !!
