Afternoon all, I'm new to the forum and after a bit of advice.
Ordered myself a new GTD after negotiating on a carwow offer and the dealer took deposit over the phone last Monday (30/03), or so I thought, nothing has gone out of my account to the tune of the deposit I agreed to put down.
I sent an e-mail a few days later chasing up some sort of order confirmation and a quick response from them said he'd send it over that day, nothing received, sent another e-mail a week after our phone call (06/04) and he promised it again, still haven't received anything, seemed to be "busy" when I called a few days later and still hasn't called back/responded to latest e-mail.
I appreciate salesmen can get busy but this just seems a bit strange?
Anyone have any ideas, or is this just standard practice?
He quoted 16-20 weeks for a lead in but not sure if that begins when he actually decides to take my deposit and send the order confirmation?

Welcome to the forum.
Its not an unfamiliar story - but that does not make it acceptable. The danger here is that they don't have current allocation of cars to place your order and so are delaying. I think you now have to go all out to speak with the salesman and get to the bottom of it. Time for another phone call - I have to say, e-mails can be a good way to record what was said in writing, although a sales person can ignore them. Follow up your call with an e-mail of what was said/agree so you have something to fall back on later if needed.
Are they far away?
Another important question - are you going to finance the car via the dealer/VWFS?

Yeah I have got a record of all my e-mails as they're in one chain so easy enough to follow and I've noted down when I've tried to call him.
They're around 50 miles away so not too far but £3k better offer than the local dealership is why I went that way.
I think it's more frustration of not having any official confirmation from them, feel like I can't get excited about my new car yet.
Will be on a PCP with VWFS. Pretty much a straight swap, they're taking my MK6 GT 2.0TDI as p/x and the monthly payments on the new one are similar.

Like Mark has said its possible they don't have any allocation left to sell so are just stalling. Although why they don't just collect the money and have it sitting in their account is strange.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just continue to chase up the salesman. When I bought mine through a broker, I don't think the dealer took the money for over a week either.
Are you worried he gave you too big a discount and is unable to put it through?

That's the main thing that is confusing me, Why ask for a deposit over the phone as if to save time and then not actually take anything for over a week?
A part of me is thinking he's done too much and can't honour it, or maybe the whole tech pack thing was a mistake as well? I got DNS Pro, Dynaudio, Park Assist and Camera in their respective packs for around the same price as the DNS Pro on its own beforehand. Although from other posts on the forum it would seem that this is legit.
However, I did phone earlier today after Marks post and although the salesman was 'with a customer' I was told "don't worry, it's all ready to send, it will be with you today"
Don't think I'll be able to cope with the 16 weeks lead in if I'm like this already haha!

If they've told you it will be with you today then give them that opportunity and if you haven't heard anything by Monday phone back.
Carwow is good for deals and very legit. I wouldn't worry they can't now give you what they offered you.

Its only natural to think something is up if you are getting a good deal but then they appear to be refusing to take your money :laugh:
Once you get your order number that will put your mind at ease. Then you can check the tracker every 30 minutes of your life for the next 20 weeks :rolleyes:

Fair enough - but if you have not come to a satisfactory result (in writing, including a clear statement of the options you have selected and the 'price to change' or the allowed trade in price of the current car) by today I would turn up to see them tomorrow.
You also need to get your finance deal locked in place as until you have been credit checked and accepted by VWFS its just a quote (which could change if GFV and/or APR is revised during your 16 week wait).

I've sent an e-mail confirming what had been said over the phone, albeit not by him personally, but yeah if I haven't received anything in writing today I'll go over and see them in person.
I agree with that, the uncertainty of it all is what's making me uncomfortable, just wasn't sure if it was standard practice when not putting a deposit down in person!

Form says estimated delivery date 19/08/15 which would be roughly 20 weeks from now so I assume worst case scenario until factory accepts order and confirms?

I ordered mine on the 13/01/15 & build week confirmed 27th april 2015
They said i should get it between mid & end of May 05/15 so we will see :smiley:

it can indeed take five minutes and it can take longer too. I had a nightmare once as I made an application but the dealer did not get a response straight away but said they would contact me as soon as the had a response. Few days later I get an e-mail saying 'sorry, you have been declined'! The finance company was VWFS - at that time I had an existing PCP with them and the new one was going to be the same amount give or take a few pence and I had a 100% repayment record. As you can imagine I was not happy and also very puzzled.
I launched an 'appeal' directly to VWFS carefully setting out my argument - within two weeks they responded and said I was accepted subject to the current agreement being settled prior to the new one being taken out. In other words it was not made clear to VWFS by the dealer that the new car was going to replace the old one - so I am always careful to ensure that fact is pointed out to the finance company pointed as as it was an anxious two weeks!
PS - What I was subsequently lead to believe is that in the event of a straight purchase with no trade-in/settlement figure on the current car factored in to the deal on the new car they (VWFS) will assume its an additional purchase unless told otherwise.

Glad its all moving forward for you :-) The tracker should say 'with the factory' within a week - but it will not give you a confirmed build week until about four weeks before the build week - so in effect it will stay at 'with the factory' for a few months....

My wife took my old car, the Audi A1 and I was planning on putting the new car in her name as I already had a PCP on the A1. But for some bizarre reason they accepted me again on the Golf so I currently have 2 running side by side in my name both from VWFinance.
Your scenario must happen all the time especially when folk are changing cars but I would imagine they have some mechanism in place to try and prevent folk being refused.
They probably thought I was trading in the A1 :rolleyes:

I've had to leave him another message as he hasn't actually sent the finance quotation, it's just an order confirmation. The order number on the sheet is only 6 digits whereas it should be 8.
I asked him for more info on the back of him sending through the form and I didn't hear anything over the weekend.
I think I'll be calling the dealership manager later today if I haven't heard anything and will see what comes of that.
Seems like he just doesn't want to answer my questions and seems to be avoiding me which makes me wonder what he's hiding!

In my experience dealing with dealers (lol) purely by remote control can be a challenge. The only time I had a really good experience was using the Kent based dealer that Drivethedeal brokers put you with - their salesman was super attentive via e-mail.
With others it always seems that if they can get away with not responding to your call or e-mail they will. You are then left with having to travel to them to get things sorted out face to face....

I agree, I suppose this is when you have justify whether the savings over the local dealership is worthwhile!
At least I could call in on my way home from work and speak to them in person. I'm just thinking about the saving!
I'm also half tempted to leave a damning review on carwow seen as they are intent on reminding me to leave a review every other day. Maybe that will get their attention :whistle:

Yes - but the local dealer can be just as bad - its just less stress to pay them a visit. Maybe you should just cancel and go with DtD :-)

e-mail at half 8 last night, unique order number provided and scheduled for build week 21.
Now I can decrease work productivity even more with the use of the VW Tracker!

Me too, might add another option just to push it back a couple of weeks.
I've actually specced the Nav Pro as part of the Tech Pack. So screen would still be 8", would just be the newer version?
I think going off the majority of stories on here, that build week will be slightly optimistic!

Oh yes!
Previous two cars have been White and fancied a change so that was definitely out.
Wanted more of a colour than Black, Grey or Silver
Was torn between Night Blue or Tornado Red for a while then saw a TR GTD in the flesh and that swayed it!

Followed a Tornado Red GTD on the way home today, they do look very smart in the flesh.
Is your BW21 confirmed yet or is it still provisional?

Not confirmed by factory, it's at Stage 2 on the tracker.
Hoping that luck will be on my side and push it out a week so I get the MY16 updates!

OP's date is provisional - you don't get a confirmed BW21 until BW17.

Sorry, I should have updated this thread. I did get my build week confirmed as 21 and my tracker moved to stage 3 last week which ties in.
Looks like I'll miss out on the MY16 updates but I don't think it's worth pushing it out and waiting even longer.
As per other threads Websta, the dealership looking after your order may well have exceeded their order quota for a few months or better yet the tracker might be playing up and next thing you know it'll be at the dealers!

Agree, it's a catch 22!
I think after the amount of mithering and days of panic I had after initially placing the order, I'd drive myself insane if I purposefully delayed my order now.

I've ordered 5 door GTD, Night Blue, DNS Nav (Which is now standard i think) and Winter Pack (again, now standard i think)
I was just looking on the configurator and it lists Keyless entry as standard now also which is a bonus!

I'm not overly bothered about Keyless. More of a nice to have, bonus if you didn't spec it and it comes for free though.

It states it in the standard spec now, unless you have leather then its extra...
Totally not bothered about Keyless either but according to the configurator (which could be totally messed up) The changes i see now are:
DNS Nav as standard
Winter Pack
Keyless
All listed under the standard specification?!

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place but I can't find it.
In saying that though I seen Keyless as standard the other day yet its not there in the "Standard features" today!
The winter pack would be a good addition. Strange that its still to be paid for with leather though as you already get the heated seats free with that!

Some time ago on here I talked about a friend of mine who had a Mk5 GTI from new... when he ordered it he paid for options that subsequently were standard items on vehicles built starting from just before when his was built.
The dealer told him "tough luck".
I don't know if your car is BW22 or after, but if it is, then you might also have a similar conversation....

This has nothing to do with BW22 (apart from the larger media screen) - its a change in standard spec instigated by VWUK.

Someone on here the other day said that factory build to whatever a countries 'base' specification is at the time. VW UK have said those spec changes take effect from week 22, so in theory even if the car was ordered without those options it will end up having them fitted for no extra cost. So some people might get lucky?
I remember in 2010 a lot of people who ordered Mk6 Golf SEs got the Match spec for free, but the car was still registered a SE. Then another time for some reason RNS 510 was added as a standard item by mistake to a lot of Match cars came with free and unexpected sat nav!

Well you know just as well as I do that they never directly said that :rolleyes:
The BW22 assumption was made as VW UK announced in the MY16 document that an inflationary price rise was taking place. The same day as the price rise appeared on the website (24th April) that extra spec appeared too. As we know the spec changes have since been retracted
A new price list has still yet to to be published since the current 1st April addition doesn't contain 2016 changes, price rises or any spec enhancements if they are still happening

Weird, my golf has been on order since late jan. tracker has been on stage 2...today I got two emails and a text saying my order had progressed to stage 2 and was with the factory planning for production....it's said that for the last 12 weeks! Could this be a glitch in the tracker, or could my order finally be about to progress?! Here's hoping!!!

What did you order ? did you order a speced up golf etc? If so im pretty sure it will take longer due to them having to get the correct parts etc. DSG gearbox add alot of time onto your build time etc, everything extra takes longer, different colour, bigger alloys etc.
I orderd mine on the 13th of january.
I should now be getting the car this coming wednesday ! the 13th.

I've ordered Manual, Night Blue, Discover Nav and Winter Pack so hardly a huge list of extra's.
I was speaking to the lease company the other day and said about people on here placing orders earlier than me and receiving build weeks. There response was "no chance, maybe with a Golf Match or something but not a GTD"
I cant help but think the dealer they use sold all thee allocation so its been on "back order". Just seems strange that i signed up for updates on the tracker over 5 weeks ago and then on Saturday i get a text to say "its with the factory" WEIRD!
I'm just a regular guy, who wants his new motor!!!

Must be a bigger back log now then I thought. I am abit gutted though because my cars still at port ! I thought it would have been delivered by now since its been in the uk over a week ! They obv don't work hard enough at port to get cars out of there hahaa :grin:

SlipnDip which port is you're car being held in? Mine is either in or coming into Sheerness today apparently. Hopefully will have my stage 6 tomorrow. :)

'Tis the VW way unfortunately. If you want a new performance car fast look elsewhere :whistle:
Count yourself lucky, I ordered in Jan, currently stage 2 and not expectiing stage 3 for about another 3 weeks. I'm in no rush though. And as for Monkeyhanger, well he's a special case!

I ordered on 3rd May and received Stage 3 BW25 message yesterday - yeh. Ordered the car for September delivery 65 plate, so it should be here well in time.

Another update from me, dealer has confirmed my car is on its way to them and I've confirmed I'll collect it on the 27th so it will be 12 weeks from Order Confirmation to Collection.
Time to stock up on some detailing products!

so jealous .. ordered mine 10 weeks ago and not heard a sniff .. at least ill be getting sat nav , winter pack and keyless as standard now. Was really hoping for a mid july delivery :cry: :cry:

I had an email from my dealer this morning saying that due to the MY16 changes all cars with the new specs were being put back to later build dates. he also said that I should be hearing info regarding a build date in the next few weeks. I will probably now ask for a September delivery.

Ordered 16th April, quoted mid September delivery. Inchcape Twickenham, my local dealership, are the lucky ones to part me from my wallet.
White 5 door DSG with all the driver aids, panoramic sunroof and dark tints.
I'm learning to be patient!

So a final update on my order process!
Ordered 30th March
Build Week 21 confirmed 24th April
Car arrived at Dealer 3rd June
Total of 65 days or around 9 weeks.
Finally picking up my car tomorrow after being out of the country for 2 weeks, and having to have the car I'm trading in repaired due to someone driving into me on my way home from work on Monday!
All in all, an experience with ups and downs, bottom line is... I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight!

Got a call from the Dealer on Friday to say it had been confirmed as week 30, then the tracker updated on Saturday. However the email stated week 31, now ive checked and the tracker says W/C 20-7 so 30.
Lets hope its a similar 2-4 weeks after to arrive in the country! Im stoked now! Its like the day i ordered again hahaah

Yeah same here, tracker email and when logged into my account on tracker website it says week 31 but dealer and basic tracker page says week 30, hopefully it is the later!

Should be a around two months from now to collection I reckon based on my R timetable.
I ordered mid March, so about 6 months wait in total for me.
