Cheers Lee.
Anyone know what the difference is between MIB Generation 1 to Generation 2? Just curious.
About time Carnet came to the Golf. I wonder what the App is all about?
-
Does this mean that any orders before 27th April get the old spec or does it go by the build week?

Better screen quality and faster processing.

I would imagine the standard spec changes go by build week but any cost options would need to be ordered after 27th April?

I also wonder if the 'Tech Pack' might be withdrawn and/or have a further price increase.
-

It all depends on the build week, if it is built before week 22 then it will be 2015 model year trim but if it is made on build week 22 or after it will be the latest 2016 MY and therefor have what I mentioned in the original post.
-
Good stuff.
Does this mean that the new units are carnet / mirrorlink enabled?
If you spec nav you get that Route app, so what does the £100 option give you extra?
-
Thanks for posting
Do you have to pay the 'inflationary price increase' if you've already ordered but haven't yet got a confirmed BW?
-
Normally with VW if you have placed an order and paid a deposit you are price protected and pay the price agreed at point of ordering - thats always been the case for me anyway but worth getting it in writing from your dealer.
-
"Inflationary increase" - greedy b'stards, the pound is 12% stronger against the Euro than it was a year ago and they already had a rise in November. There is price protection applied when you have an order accepted at the factory, although it can be wriggled out of if you want to modify your order after a price increase.

Yes, it's a bloody cheek
At least I managed to get the Tech pack officially added before 27th April, otherwise I'd have to cough up yet more!

Do we think the gtd and r wagons will be available to order from 27th April?
-
Do we think the gtd and r wagons will be available to order from 27th April?
Ah, the Royal we.
Why would they not be available?
-
They aren't available to order now so that's why I'm asking! As Lee has mentioned in the first post about end of April orders do people (not we!!) think this may include the new wagons?
-
Does the tracker get updated every day or is it just a Friday ?
-

Orders for the GTD and R wagons open this Wednesday (8th)
-

Waiting for the tracker to move from stage 2 to BW confirmed? If so then snap. Might give the dealer a call tomorrow.
-
It can change to the next stage on any day of the week.
-
Does anyone think it'd be possible to CarNet-enable a Gen 1 Discover Nav system?
-
Does anyone think it'd be possible to CarNet-enable a Gen 1 Discover Nav system?
It was only an option on NavPro and only in certain countries... eg Germany.
When your car was from a place where they didn't want you to have it, the unit in the glovebox didn't even have provision for the sim car or wifi...
So unless you can retrofit that, absolutely not.

They have dropped the APR% to 6.3% (GTD/R) and 6.4% (GTI) for those PCPing.

There's a write up here (http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/volkswagen-mib-ii-and-golf-r-touch-concept-at-ces-2015/) of VW's App-Connect system. It looks good to me if I've understood it correctly - you should basically be able to shift your smartphone's technology straight into your dash.
I'm currently an unconfirmed BW20 but am tempted to see if I can get a delay and add this on for £100.
-
The BW22 updates involve Carnet...

I wish I had these with my R. And I suppose it cannot be retro-coded?
My BMW had this and it was a boon in the winter to warm up the car etc and for car location.
-
Hmm, reading through this link - the pre-heating ability would only work for a plug-in car such as e-Golf or GTE (so long as its plugged in).
Otherwise there is no heat source

Have just spoken to my dealer and he has told me that when I collect my car I will have the latest offers (Slightly lower APR i think and the higher dealer deposit). Right result, few pennies saved and the extra £500 deposit offsets my tech pack upgrade!!

You don't want much do you. I'm surprised you haven't engaged the services of an Armani-clad chauffeur yet to undertake the menial task of driving

Is Car-Net App-Connect definitely CarPlay then? Struggling to find much info on it online.
At £100 its a complete no brainer and makes you wonder if Discover Nav is worth it!

Yeah its not really clear though. If you look here - http://volkswagen-carnet.com/int/en/start/car-models/golf_r.html#tab/open/guide-inform it seems to suggest all we'll get is 'Guide & Inform' but no e-Remote or MirrorLink which look to be the more useful features.
Would be nice to see something that says specifically what a BW22 UK market GTD/ GTI/ R will get!
-
I wouldn't believe any of it - VW UK have had info on carnet since before the Mk7 was released, yet despite all the promises, its never actually been available in the UK - EVEN WHEN THEY SAID IT WAS!
I'd not bank on anything being possible until someone sees it with their own eyes!
-
This seems to be the only part of that site that explicitly details Car-Net App Connect as supporting Apple Car Play, but its under the Touran section - http://volkswagen-carnet.com/int/en/start/car-models/touran.html#tab/open/app-connect
So maybe that's what they are adding to the Mk7? Hopefully there will be an official release sometime soon clarifying...

I agree it's not clear at all. I'm afraid I can't shed any more light on it, maybe somebody else can??

Reading the brochure again - its saying that Car-net will be available on GTE and e-Golf, nothing else...... no mention of Mirrorlink at all.
-

You are correct. No Mirror Link. But Car-Net will be I thought.
I just posted the Mirror Link Review for information purposes.
Also, from the Video (in the Link) Car-Net Services are only available with DNS Pro and Advanced Tel Prep must also be optioned.
-
Car-net is only mentioned for the GTE and e-Golf. And that makes sense with the features mentioned such as pre-setting the climate system - that would only be possible with a plugged in electric vehicle as on a standard car there is no heat/energy source prior to engine start....
-
Does anyone definitively know what will be included from BW22 with respect to Car-net and associated items? It would be helpful to know in advance and surely VW should be able to set it out clearly.
Otherwise it's a case of waiting to see what the first post BW22 car turns up with!
-
Huh...no change there then... come on Rebecca, you serious expecting VW UK to a) know what they are actually selling and b) help out their customers

Haha Sootchucker, no I don't. I expect them to predictably fail miserably on counts a) and b) and countless others.
Rather I hoped that as Mark V GTD is very good at fathoming the VW brochure (I lose the will to live reading it, especially on an iphone!) he might be able to enlighten us all
-
Well the Configurator is a shambles - but reading the price list PDF it suggests to me that the full Carn-net will only be on the GTE and e-Golf - the description concerning pre-setting of the climate system is an indicator as this can only be done with a plug-in vehicle thats actually plugged in.
It seems that there is simpler version of it called 'Guide and Inform' which does not have the 'pre-climatisation' capabilities but even the description of the system differs between GTE and e-Golf.
I will be pleasantly surprised if Car-net is fitted to any other 'performance Golfs' post BW22
-
I've just had a looked at the links on this thread and from what I can make out the VW Car-Nets Guide & Inform is much the same as "Audi Connect" which my wife has on her car. It has some good features and will be a welcome addition to the Golf.
However it has a few drawbacks. One being it is only available with the Technology pack and with this being around £1700 makes it an expensive option. This would tie in with it only being available on the DNS Pro with Advanced telephone as it needs a SIM slot in the unit.
The way it works to connect to the internet is either put a SIM into the unit, which causes problems as this then also becomes your handsfree (are you going to take your SIM out your phone every time) or connect the car to your mobile via RSAP. This allows full access to the online services.
However if you run a standard iPhone your fecked as it doesn't allow RSAP which really makes the whole system redundant.

Thanks. I will be pleasantly surprised too. We can but wait and see the reality.
It makes me laugh (or cry) how they can such have differing descriptions of the same thing, but unfortunately this is not unique to Car-net as it is repeated across their website on varying topics/options :undecided:

Car-Net is available for the R, but only with the DNS Pro and one has to spec the Advanced Telephone Interface.

Yeah I've seen that.
Going back to evo1986's original post it states "Golf - Any model ordered with Discover Nav will get 3 years Car-Net ‘Guide and Inform’ included". He doesn't mention Advanced Telephone Prep as a requirement? Is it definite that you have to spec that?
-
Where does it say its 'available' for the R? I am reading the new brochure but obviously missing something important.....
-
Where does it say its 'available' for the R?
Under the heading (and accompanying picture of an R. Not sure what the superscript 6 refers to?
THE APPS & SERVICES FOR THE GOLF R⁶.
-
Thanks but where does it say that - brochure, forum, VW website, on-line article etc?
Sorry to sound thick....
-
It's on a website. You can select by model and it gives you the apps and services for that model
http://volkswagen-carnet.com/int/en/start.html
To be honest there so many different pages referring to it, it's highly confusing - well to me anyway :undecided:

Car-Net is a silly umbrella term that Volkswagen seems to use for different technologies.
- Car-net "Guide and Inform" has been an option in Germany for a while now, it costs 102€ for MY2015 GTIs and seems quite pointless with basic Google maps support via a phone signal.
- Car-net "e-Remote" is for electric models only.
- Car-net "App-connect" offers MirrorLink, CarPlay and Android Auto and can currently only be specced on the new Touran, it's 205€ in Germany and can be used with either Composition Media, Discover Media or Discover Pro.
Seeing as it's an optional extra in the Touran and most likely will be for MY2016 Golfs as well, I don't think VW will add it to anyone who couldn't spec it at the time of ordering.
I'd love to know what the upgraded resolutions for the 6.5" and 8" screens are going to be, the current offers are pathetic.
-
Ah thanks - with you now..... well we can live in hope but that site seems more focused own what car-net can do than telling you where it can be found. I will take a good look again. :-)
-

Maybe the site should be entitled "this is what car-net can do.....but you UK-ites are not getting it!"
Anyway, you must have the patience of a saint to trawl through the myriad references to it. Good luck

I asked my dealer yesterday a question about Gen 2 DNS/DNS Pro for BW22 and post week 22 cars. He's confirmed that Volkswagen have said vehicles already ordered and built week 22 and after would be built to 2016 model year specification. Good, but...
Although my BW is still unconfirmed, and obviously subject to change, he also mentioned that my car is now unconfirmed BW24 instead of the original BW28. Too close for comfort :undecided: Hope it slips back a bit.
-
I've just had the opposite conversation with VW UK CS on the phone, the lady told me you get whatever you order and it doesn't automatically become a MY 2016 even if its BW22. I then asked about changing spec and she said you'd need to re-order and go back to the start of the que :undecided:
Gotta love the inconsistency!

Doesn't look like the price list has been updated for MY 2016 yet, I'm sure 27th April was the day mentioned for when order books officially open.
-

Thats complete rubbish and pretty much the normal standard for VWCS...
I then asked about changing spec and she said you'd need to re-order and go back to the start of the que
Talk to your dealer - you can change most things prior to BW confirmed. I changed the colour of my car. It can sometimes cause a delay because optional items are ordered on a demand basis - but its certainly not the case that you have to start another order unless the car is BW confirmed (for weeks before build) - or built...
-
All cars are automatically built to the base country specific spec current at the build week. They do not build Model year 15 cars after BW 22 to cater for orders made prior, year 16 is year 16 and thats that!. Most of the time this just happens and many folk just dont realise the often subtle differences to the post BW 22 (or spec changes BW45) cars they take delivery of.
I guess I need to illustrate my point re factory spec changes (with real examples from last few years) - the classic case is someone who ordered a Golf SE before the 'Match' model (with extra spec) was announced. The factory then starts building Match spec cars and deletes the SE spec - result - you automatically get the additional items in 'Match' without asking - they DO NOT continue to build SE cars to fulfill earlier orders - hence the caveat in the brochures 'VW reserve the right the change specifications without notice etc etc'.
Another example - if you ordered a Scircoco GT in late 2012 (before the free leather interior was announced). During your build wait they changed the base spec to include leather - thats what you got without asking for it. Nobody was given a cloth interior because they did not order the free leather!
But it can work the other way too - on the Golf Mk.V at one point they took out some spec items from the SE and made them optional. Dealers mainly ignored this and when people got delivery of their cars, I think it was the convenience pack (from memory) was missing, so no auto dimming rear view mirror, auto lights, wipers etc . What happened is that during the time between ordering and build that pack had been consigned to the options list - but you had to have know that and changed your order to include it as an option in order to still get it.
-

I know they are.
My understanding is the same as yours as set out in your other post. I wanted something in writing from the dealer (for what it's worth).
-
They are talking rubbish - see my posts above.....
I agree. They are talking utter unadulterated garbage.
Another example of which no one was aware, not even the dealers:
All Rs from 2014 BW45 came faux leather door cards and faux leather front arm rest, even if ordered cars were without leather seats. Previous to this BW, cars with standard cloth seats had cloth covered door cards and front arm rest. These faux leather door cards and faux leather front arm rest are the same as in those Rs ordered with Vienna Vinyl Leather.

As my (albeit unconfirmed) build week, now BW24 (formerly 28) is so close to BW22, I asked my dealer if there was any way to ensure the car gets built after week 22, in the hope I might get the MY 2016 changes.
So for anybody wondering about asking for an (uc) build week to be held or delayed, this the reply I got:
I have phoned Volkswagen UK and asked them if they can ensure this happens, they can't get the estimated build week push back/held, the required date on the system has been put back, I'm not sure if the factory look at this, they have checked the latest production information from the factory and the lead time is in the region of 22 weeks.
I guess it's a case of crossing everything and hoping for the best. And if not, oh well
