Title: Air escape noise?
Post by: GTI2014 on 05 April 2015, 00:35
Hi All,

I have noticed that when I accelerate hard e.g. When joining onto the motorway from the slip road, that I hear a noise from under the back of the car akin to "air escaping" - the noise appears to emit from under the back seat - any advice is much appreciated e.g. Could this be related to the exhaust?

Thanks.

I have never heard of air escaping from the back end, If it was a problem with the exhaust you would mainly hear a drone of a louder than normal exhaust note.

Have you jacked your car up and listened for air escaping from the joints in the exhaust?

Make a seal with your hand on the end pipes, when cold that should throw up if the exhaust has a leak.

Thanks - I got the car up on a ramp and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary - my other thought is that this could be the fuel pump as I can hear this noise when accelerating hard, could this be possible?

It could be simply the vents in the boot opening to let air out so you hear the air.

it could be the fuel pump making the noise.
