Title: Taller front engine mount?!?
Post by: Brighouse-gti on 01 April 2015, 19:14
Does anyone know if there a taller front engine mount for the mk2 8v, or if you can use a mount from a mk3 or passat or something similar ??? I replaced the rear engine mount with a new one and the old one must have been shot more than I thought, because now its like the engine sits up at the back and down at the front, and up on the left and down on the right!

Aaaaalso, I raised the front of the engine previously as its got the 2.0 mk3 tall block in, and the four branch fouled the bulk head, so I slipt a few washers over the thread on top of the front mount to compensate, and everything was fine. Unfortunately I can not use the same fix twice as there wouldn't be enough thread to put the nut back on! I've heard of the hockey puck mount but can't see it working for the mk2 unless someone has done it? Anyways, open to suggestions people, hit me with your ideas!!! (The front engine mount is fairly new so replacing this still wouldn't cure it i would have thought)

put spacers underneath the mounting. you will need 2 (1 for the 13mm bolt aswell)

Upgrade the mount at the same time. I made mine out of hockey pucks and it is height adjustable (you can remove layers of pucks to adjust height aha)

How did you make your hockey puck mount Sgt? Did you use 2 very large bolts and just drill through all the pucks and mount it that way or did you make use of the original mounting and knock one up that way? Would appriciate it if you could do a 'how to' or even better get a pic up!

what I done with my front mount was split the 2 metal pieces(has to be non hydro mount) and when you get the rubber section out you will see it is full of 8mm holes all over. so I got a long section of rubber vacuum pipe and threaded it through all the holes to tighten up the mount. then spot welded the metal pieces back together. reduced engine movement by a fair bit

I bought 5 Solid rubber hockey pucks. I took the original engine mount to pieces and kept the top metal section. I drilled that to 1/2" and trimmed one of the hockey pucks until it fit nicely in the top metal section. I also shaped pucks to fit the indent on the subframe top and bottom. With a long high tensile bolt and washers (1/2" thread) I drilled all the pucks out through the centre. I think to fit my manifold in with the 2L bottom end I used 4 1/2 pucks in total. The subframe may have to be drag drilled slightly to get the angle on bolt so it fits nicely. Use a locking nut underneath obviously and that's it.
