Post by: Big blue turbo on 30 March 2015, 06:51
Ok so I bought my car two months ago mk4 gti 1.8t drove it home from manchester with no problems. The next day and boom problem after problem and haven't drove the car since.

Ok so problem one.The windows go up and down on there own (live in liverpool so huge problem)

Problem two.starter motor gave up I have a replacement but whould like some guidance on fitting it.always worked on bikes never cars.

Problem three  running like a bag of spaners.i have put this down to the MAF but is there any way of testing this ?

Problem four wet in the drivers footwell and behind passengers seat also water pouring out of bottom of door card

Any help whould not only save my hair but also save a nice jazz blue mk4 becoming a charcoal black flour planter thanks again guys

Regarding water from door card I'd say it's probably the plastic sheeting that goes across it behind door card. I had the same problem in my old MK2 golf, especially as you say you've got a problem with the windows. Someone's probably had a look at them and ripped it off instead of removing it carefully. Have a look mate it's only a case of removing the door card, 10 mins work

Don't burn it pal, just take your time, and try and fix the problems, you'll get there eventually

There is no plastic sheeting behind the door card on the mk4, the window regulator panel is bolted to it.

The drain holes on the bottom of the door may be blocked or the seal on the regulator panel may be perished

Ideally you need to have it plugged in to find out why it's running badly and possibly why the windows have a mind of their own. What engine code is it?
