I've decided I need more boot space than what the Golf gives and can't decide what to do next. As subject title what would you go for?

I suppose it depends on what your priorities are.
If its space you need then it has to be the Vrs Estate as I would imagine that would be the biggest out the 3.
I'd hazard a guess it would also be cheaper than the GTD estate.
If you are looking for just a bit more space than your current GTD then the Saloon would offer that.
If it was me I think I'd go for the Vrs Estate as it has something about it I quite like.
What about the alleged R estate that is coming?

The R estate is the fall back plan for my not quite mid forties crisis haha

A decent deal here on the Skoda Vrs saloon and estate. They also accept trade-ins!

Well I'm 38 and iv got a New Passat biturbo estate being built as we speak. Passat boot is massive if your looking for room and the interior etc is a big step up on the old 1. Vrs is a good car and better value but check lead times. I looked at 1 last year and they were Golf R lead times back then. May be better now.

A lot of the lads at my plant have got Skoda VRS's from the company scheme.
They scoffed at my long old wait for my GTD when all their new Skoda's were rolling in.
I don't mind the Skoda name, but IMHO, its not quite as plush as the VW on the interior and some of the toys you can have on a Golf aren't there on the Skoda (mind you Audi have more things than VW, that must be how the hierarchy works!)

I'm not sure that's how it works and can't really figure out how it works!
When I was deciding between Golf and A3 the Golf had loads more stuff than the A3 plus stuff you couldn't even get on the A3 like Rear View Camera, adaptive cruise.

You can get most of the Golf spec (if you pay for it), about the only thing you can't is the reversing camera.
Their "nav pro" equivalent is far more advanced though, twiddly I-drive style controller, trick "handwriting input" and of course a the mystical "VW carnet" is enabled.
You'd pay another 7k for the equivalent spec though, Audi are nice like that.

Been qouted 12 weeks for the Vrs but was qouted 12 for the golf and that turned out to be 26 weeks!! Only thing missing from Skoda is the DCC. Everything else is now able to be specced and to be honest when I was in the showroom vrs yesterday it felt exactly the same as the golf.

I did like the look of the VRS interior when DTUK had one for 184TDI development, looked sportier than the GTI/GTD inside, but didn't get close enough to examine the softness of the plastics etc. For interior quality it's Seat that seems to lag way behind in the VAG pecking order.

If not for your back, I don't think you'd miss DCC on 18" rubber on the MQB platform. Miles ahead of the previosu platform for ride compliance and refinement (my MK5 on 17" wheels was a bone-crunching ride).

Its definitely more "sporty looking" than the quite subdued Golf.
If that's something you enjoy/can live with then I see no reason not to.
Expect to get people trying to race you or thinking that you are an unmarked police car though. Nearly all the lads here have had one or the other happen in the last 6 months!

I've got a B7 Passat Estate and it's a cracking car. I've driven the B8 and that is a bigger step forward than the Mk6-7 Golf. However, Passats traditionally depreciate badly over the first couple of years.
Also the new 190 and 240PS TDI's need 9 litres of Ad-Blue every 6000 miles. That's just going to be a bore.

Not seen that before!
Surprised the GTD doesn't use that... I guess its to reduce emmissions and the GTD is low enough to start with because of its weight.
25 quid per 6000 miles, 0.4 pence per mile

Just empty your piss pot into the ad-blue tank every day and keep it topped up!
I really like the vRS blue so that's what I'd opt for. The tail-pipes look really cool too, and the wheels...

When I changed from a gti to my Passat alltrack it was for the for the same reason more space. We looked at the golf estate and the boot isn't that big. I looked at a vrs saloon and the boot is massive so the estate would be as well. It's all down to what you are after and I didn't know you needed ad blue in the new Passat for me that would be a no. If I was looking and buying new I'd probably go skoda vrs :cool: And probably the saloon

Alltrack a great car will miss the ruggedness when the Biturbo comes.
Also was not aware of the ad blue rubbish..still a great engine though. Have driven the GT with this engine and it doesn't half shift.

I think I'll head down to Skoda on Saturday and have a drive of the dsg estate vrs they have. Probably wouldn't get dsg but it's the only one they have. Estate would be ideal for the vast boot and also the roof rails for putting the bikes on.
