When you turn the key I'm guessing the oil light ect lights up on the dash?.. But then nothing.
(Assuming your fuse box, fuses & relays are all good)
Is the starter motor working?.. and if so have you tried starting the car off the starter motor not the ignition? If the car starts of the starter motor you'll know your problem is somewhere between A & B, ie the ignition barrel and the starter.
Orrrrrr possibly, similar thing with my 8v, for me it turned out the earth cable from the starter to the battery was that corroded internally it wasn't making a connection any more! Replaced with a new cable and it started better than it ever had it the 7 years I've owned it!

Deathly silence when turning key to crank engine usually means that the starter solenoid connection has corroded to the point that it is no longer a connection.  It's the red/black 4mm² wire ending in a 1/4" unwaterproofed spade connection. Unplug to inspect. Clean up if grotty, which I bet it is.
