Title: Paint flaking off
Post by: danpen1306 on 22 March 2015, 11:08
Hi All,

Had my mk6 GTD just under 3 months now. I recently took it to a hand car wash and noticed the day after that some paint had started to flake off on the drivers side rear bumper/wheel arch area.

I googled the issue and people seemed to point the finger at jet wash damage, something to do with the jet wash being held too close to the paint work. I went and had a meeting with the owner of the car wash yesterday and he had a look at it as did the owner of the body shop on the same plot of land. They both believe that the car had some sort of damage and has been painted poorly. He highlighted that you could see paint spray down inside the mud flaps and there was also some paint on the rear parking sensors which looked messy.

I am trying to get in touch with the sales person at VW lookers where I got the car from. Whilst I'm waiting I thought I'd share the problem on here and see what you guys think.

Should VW sort this ASAP? I have warranty until the end the of the year but surely this isn't a warranty issue is it? I've owned the car just under 3 months and bought it on PCP if that helps.

Thanks

Not sure what the dealers will say, maybe if you had noticed within a couple of weeks of ownership, they may be more likely to do something. But after 3 months, not so sure.

The way that has flaked off, it has definitely had some paintwork. The dealers are not obliged to put this right as it was a used car and it's up to you to spot it before you do the deal. They may however offer you a 'goodwill' contribution towards the cost of them re-doing the work. Either way I would imagine you are going to have to pay something.

Is there a line by the top of the mud flap too, or is it just dirt?

It's frustrating because unless I was a paint specialist myself, I would never be able to spot something like this. I just hope the dealer will at least go halves with me. My local dealers reckons it will cost £100 + VAT to sort

That's just a build up of dirt.
