Anyone made the change from a GTD to a GTI?
We do on average of 1000-1200 miles a month, but mostly all short journeys and I've noticed we get a regen every week or occasionally twice a week (is this normal intervals).
Been thinking this past week or so that maybe a GTI would suit our driving style better :undecided:
On average we get around 400 miles ta a tank in out GTD, what would I expect in a GTI?
Maybe hit the dealers next week and see what kinda deal could be done

My light usually comes on at 360 miles. Hope that helps.

Regen happens at what interval on a GTD? About 800 miles?
If you are seeing them do it (ie its a forced one) then you probably aren't doing optimum mileage for a GTD, although 1000 miles a month is 32 miles per day, which probably is into reasonable territory, but you aren't making the big gains someone doing twice that will be over a GTI.
-
Diesels only come into their own element when you're doing 15,000+ miles a year mostly on motorways.
My GTI gets around 350-370 miles out of each full tank and I don't exactly hang about either.
The R, surprisingly hits about 300-320 miles out of a tank too. So again, not a huge amount in it.

The GTI is quite torquey and revs a lot quicker than a GTD but I am a fan of the latter's gutsy delivery.
I've just checked my long term average on the GTI and it's showing about 29.5 getting around 330 to a tank most weeks. Bear in mind I live in an area with lots of big arse hills and bendy roads so it would easily do much better somewhere flatter.
It's swings and roundabouts as to which is the better car of the two, some days you'd prefer one and some days the other. They both drive really well but with different characteristics.
Unlike the R, the GTI does run just as happily on 95 RON, so if you can ease 360 miles out of a GTI tankful (not that difficult) it doesn't cost much to run.
The biggest killer for you would be cost to change with such a new car depreciating heavily. So see what figures they offer you before falling for the GTI's charms.

Thanks for that guys, it's give me a lot to think about, I love driving my GTD so either way I go I'm sill happy
I was just conscious that the fact I was maybe going to damage the DPF but saying that my plan all along was to change in a year or 2 anyway so perhaps nothing to worry about.
Still ill take a quick nosey round the dealers and see what they offer

It costs nothing to ask!
You'll soon bin the idea if the figures don't stack up, but who knows...

Yes made the change from GTD to GTI 4 weeks ago, I only do around 9k a year, no regrets so far, the GTD averaged 42 and the GTI appears to average around 32.

Used Eco mode for the first time today, went for a drive around 80 miles and averaged 58mpg
Well happy with that, also found the car pretty nice to drive with my driving style (old granny) in Eco Mode

I'm in your boat. Thinking about changing but no figures that I have had make it worthwhile. I am due to speak to the dealer soon to seen what we can agree

I changed from a GT Tdi 150 to a GTI. I no longer do the miles to justify a diesel, as I mostly do short runs the DPF filter would regen at least once a week.

Dpf regens happen at about 800 miles regardless of how you drive it.
