I'm a fan of the Goodyear Eagle F1's. So I'm keen to know if the standard tyres are any good?

Depends what you get. There were 4 different types on the go for 225/40 R18 GTI/GTD in mid-2013 when they started to be available. More often than not you'll now get Bridgestone S001 which are monumentally sh!te for damp/wet grip and allow the car to tramp freely with very little throttle when pulling away from a roundabout/junction.

If you get Dunlop SP01, Pirelli P7s or Conti 5s then you'll be fine. Uniroyal Rainsport3s are very cheap right now. Excellent wet grip, fine dry grip - but quite soft and wear quite quickly. If I were buying tyres right now, i'd probably go for the F1s or Michelin PS3s in 18" size if the Uniroyals weren't so cheap right now.

Cheers monkey. Sounds like it's gonna be a bit of a lottery then! Oh well fingers crossed I don't end up with Bridgestones.

Snooze, if Bridgestones are good enough for the R, they're good enough for a GTI, lol
