Title: high fuel consumption
Post by: blue_concept on 18 September 2005, 00:21
being scared by the latest petrol prices. i have been paying more attention to my golf mk3 8v mfa computer, i have now realised that if i thrash it the read out on mpg says around 17 mpg.

i have always though that this is that way it going to be. but after looking at parkers.co.uk it says i should recieve around 34 mpg. it does have an induction kit, sebring back box and a superchip. what do you guy think?,

i think that the car may be running rich as the last owner had it standing for like 9 months.

what do you recon? anyone with a similar car?

Hi - I've got a standard mk3 8v and best MPG i've ever had is about 37MPG cruising at 70 on the motorway.
If I get stuck in stop start traffic or drive the car hard I get similar to you...unfortunatley!

similar story here too. mines got 68k on the clocks.

70mph cruise = 40 mpg

stop/start in town = 20mpg.

ive got a 1.6 carb mk2 and i get a terrible fuel consumption. i can easily use a quatar of a tank in a couple days driving. and i dont travel that far. i dont have a fuel consumption gague so cant give a readout but it cant be great. my mate said he thought mine was running rich but im not so sure.

anyone had a similar problem??

My mk1's in the garage for it's MOT and service so having to use my Rallye as a daily at the moment, you want to talk about fuel consumption, come and talk to me ! I can actually see the fuel gauge needle move on a small journey! But I just love the sound.

Yup, I probably have. Not sure I can afford them all yet as it's my first year and the tax and MOT's are running out now, so time will tell. :undecided: As for your last offer, thanks, but there's no way you'd get the keys before me as I love driving it too much.

Why thank you. :afro: To be honest, the cabby was going to be sold after I bought the Rallye, but then I came to realise that it's not cheap to run and I'd be putting moon miles onto it so the cabby stays as my daily for now. You know you've got a problem when the most practical vehicle you own is a mk1 convertible !

my 16v mk2 returns about 30 - 32mpg when driven nicely... or about 22 - 24mpg when driven as it should be driven.
