Title: Brand new Gti ordered. Whoops!
Post by: Snooze on 20 March 2015, 20:04
So I went along to a VIP event at my local Stealers today. Was adamant I couldn't afford a new motor.
Walked away having ordered a brand new Gti!

£3k deposit, £320 a month inc. 2yrs servicing. She'll arrive in September!

Congrats on the impulse buy!
That's a heck of a wait though,  my dealer is still quoting 3 months max

Ha ha cheers mate! Stealer did say it could show up sooner. Sept. is worst case scenario. Tbh the longer the better as it gives me time to save up the rest of the deposit!

Welcome to the Mk7 fold
Did you feel pressured or did your heart rule your head?
I always imagined these VIP type events to be busy and you've literally no chance of seeing anyone. Obviously not.
I take it the 2 year servicing is dealer specific rather than the VW deal as 2 years seems a strange time!

And what's with the Gti? I thought all VW heads were in the know and it was GTI or just a wannabe!

Haha, told you attending the vip event would be a dangerous move.  I reckon you must have been half convinced to order before setting foot in the dealership though

What spec you gone for?

No pressure, deal was too Gd to turn down.

You make an appointment to see someone at VIP events. I saw the same salesman I have for my last two Gti's. Nice guy.

Yeah 3 yrs would have been better, but £149 for 2 services seemed like a gd deal!

It's a Gti or nothing for me. This is my third!

You did and you were right! Tbh I was gonna buy one if they offered me a gd enough a deal, which they did.

It's just a 3dr manual base spec in white. I'm chuffed to bits tho. Will be my first ever brand new car!

Can't beat your first brand new car, worth it just for that new car smell   A long-ish wait but I'm sure it'll be worth it.  Hopefully less effort to keep clean than black too.  My R's due on or before 1st Sept too so may get ours around same time

I canny wait! Hopefully. Yes that was Defo a consideration. Ive had a red, silver and black cars before so wanted a change. Had planned on grey next, but the light great looked cheap and didn't like the dark grey in the flesh. Navy blue seemed a bit boring so white was the only option! Mines due 2nd Sept. A couple of the guys said it seemed a long wait, but Stealer said it may come sooner.

Oh I'd forgotten u were getting an R. Well jell! What colour and spec have u gone for?

I really like the mk7 GTI in White, suits it very much..  How about a nice gloss black roof wrap and matching mirrors, that looks amazing on white....haha, maybe get the car first eh.

I've gone for a 5dr DSG, DBP, 19" Pretoria, DCC, Vienna leather, Keyless, Discover Nav, Rear camera, High beam assist, Voice control.  Had quite a few new cars so not the same level of excitement as with your first time but still looking forward to it.  Stupidly gone for black again, must be mad and have nothing better to do than clean dirty cars   At least I won't have to buy a different colour charged wax

Wow sounds gd and expensive! Must admit I did want the Pretorias, but they would have been another £1k. Sounds like you're a glutton for punishment. I would have gone black again because they do look awesome when clean. But decided White would be less work!

You can gloat how easy yours is to keep clean when you get it

If you think white is less work think again. It shows every tar spot and dirt known to man. It's worse than black in some respects as you can't hide the dirt on a white car like you can others.

Yeah tar must be a real pita, but I expect it's only really noticeable close up to the owner, never really noticed it on other people's cars, driving around, and I do look    Just have to use tar remover a few times a year.

Now a very, very dirty white car does look  but they do look great when clean.  At least white hides swirl marks better, which is a losing battle with black

Nice one booth. Hope u enjoy it. Did u have your heart set on black? I would have been very tempted by rising blue. Love that colour.

Ha ha, I doubt I could ever keep my car as clean as you do!

Thanks snooze.

It was a toss up between the lapis blue or black.   Initially I was very tempted by the blue, great contrast with the black grill and beautiful in sunshine, but.....I LOVE black and the stealth look, and think the Pretorias/silver mirrors and lip combo looks pretty good against it, plus there's always the option to go black with the mirrors/lip later for uber stealth.  The effort of keeping black clean doesn't bother me as it's a bit of a hobby

Personally I think light colours work best with the mk7.
On a GTI/D especially you lose the little touches like the lower grille strakes and the side skirt and black trim contrast on dark colours, and also the distinctive line down the side of the car tends to vanish.

VW used white for their initial launch of the GTI for good reason, red also looks good, particularly on a GTD or R.

If it was me buying again I'd get an R in silver then vanish into the background invisibly, and also in that colour I'd never have to clean it.

Well done mate, at the end of the day if you can afford it then why not

Good choice on colour, yes you will get quite a lot of tar splatter but nothing a quick spray of tar remover won't sort.

I love white but my next one will be Red (I think)

Tbh, I'm not bothered by my wait and was planned so I could get a Sept '65 plate.  Interested in the GTI lead time as a mate at work was wondering, but I think he's 90% decided on a BMW 1 series.

Well the stealer said he'd have an update on my Gti next week, so I assumed that he'd give me a build week. Tbh I don't really understand what build week means, but hey ho!

Just as it sounds. its the week the car starts to be built.  It only takes a couple of days.
So in theory you can work out when it will be ready to collect at the dealers.
Someone on here got their car 10 days after their build week had commenced but that's fast.
4 weeks is probably average after build week.
Here are the build weeks

As Steven says above.

You'll have an unconfirmed build week first off which is Stage 2, then it gets confirmed - Stage 3 and so on.  Depending on the model and spec, stage 2 is the longest.  I got given my unconfirmed build week a day after the car was officially ordered so just wondered why you haven't been told yours yet.  Somewhere in this section there's a map of the various stages if you're interested.  I'll see if I can find it later.

I'm sure it will be.

Seem to be scarce around my way too, I've only seen one white R so far despite them being sold in reasonable numbers at the expense of the GTI.  But then there's never been many GTI's round here either, mk6 or mk7s which does make it feel a little more exclusive.  MK7 GTDs are a more common sight.

We've been discussing it on another thread.  Not all dealers do it though.  Some people think it adds to the excitement of getting a new car, and others aren't bothered about it.  I prefer low key handover but I can see how some would enjoy it, especially if it's your first new car, or maybe for your kids benefit

I wouldn't be wincing at a slightly higher key handover, but I wouldn't expect it or be disappointed if I didn't get it.

Pulman have always been pretty low key with me, pick-up outside with all the used cars (but have prepared all cars to a good standard), but Scotswood Road branch of Benfield used to push the boat out a bit.

I was invited to drive my car out of the showroom, which I did. Just for a second I wanted to scream out of there, smashing through the plate glass window (as in Roger Moore 007 in "the man with the golden gun" borrowing a new Hornet to give chase to Scaramanga's car/plane")....but then I thought about the damage that would cause.  So I drove it like a nun, much to the relief of the saleswoman, no doubt.

My Scirocco was an outside job. My Mk7 GTI PP was inside the handover building with the "I'm Ready To Go Home" cover on it.
My R was inside but the salesman refused to put the cover on it in case it left any marks on the paintwork.
All were great handovers all by the same salesman and all cars were in tip top condition when I picked them up. No complaints or preferences from me.

Lol.

Is collection of your R imminent monkeyhanger?

After all the hassle and very lengthy wait, they should be presenting your car sitting atop a golden plinth, swathed in finest velvet

Another reason not to have the silly cover on.  I've seen them sitting on the floor of the showroom, only to be picked up and draped over the virgin paintwork and then hauled off, dirt and all.   Not for me.

@Snooze
I've ordered a 5dr DSG GTI Performance in reflex silver. I'm in Ireland and got a free tech pack with Regular Nav, reverse camera, MDI and light assist. I was tempted to push out to BW22 to get the new radio but decided Ill keep bw19.

That was quick Snooze just over a month and on stage 3, I ordered a month before you and I am still on stage 2.

It's starting to annoy me in a way due to the lack of information but on the other hand I am getting so close to week 22 now. If I don't hear anything by the 4th may I will be taking a trip to the dealers to see if they can find out anymore info.

Yeah even the stealer was surprised! They are all the same. Once they have your order they don't really care. I had to keep chasing for updates. Just keep emailing/phoning and they will get back to you eventually!
