OK, this might be a bit of an "out there" question, but does anyone know what the various firmwares are for the 8" Nav Pro in the Golf 7, what they added / fixed with each one and what hardware they might work with ?
Mine came with 0172 from the factory and was updated to 0200 by the dealer a couple of months back following some "glitches" with the unit, but I didn't actually see anything new as such (maybe it was just bug fixes) ?
I notice some newer cars are coming with 0362 firmware which is much later than mine, and was wondering what these add over 0200, and whether it only works with newer hardware ?
Specifically I'm looking to see if the DAB artwork auto generation in "station info" and "slideshow" modes actually works on the later firmwares and downloads the artwork automatically over the airways on the latest generation units ? I'm not referring to the station pre-set logo's, as I can download these from SD card (and have done), but according to what I've read on line, even those are supposed to be available automatically once you have assigned a pre-set to a station, but it never worked that way on mine. When I first got the car (September 2013), the "station info" and "slideshow" artwork used to work, and I would get for instance, artwork of the currently playing album on the radio appear automatically, but for some reason it just stopped a couple of months after getting the car and has never worked again.
I'm just trying to see if this was fixed in later (late 2014 early 2015) models of if it still doesn't work. If it does, my friendly dealer said they would enquire once I give them the firmware number with the factory to see if that particular firmware would work with my hardware ?
I know this has sort of been discussed before, but I'm on a bit of a mission having rejuvenated by enthusiasm for the car.
Thanks.

I will try and look, I don't really listen to the DAB or the Radio, just USB music. But I have a:
5G0035020D
Hardware: H43
Software: 0376
Sept 2014
-
Part: 5G0035020E
Hardware: H43
Software: 0376
Built January 2015
-
Mine is a April 2014 car.
Hardware H40
Software 0290
From what I've seen in this thread, the hardware variation probably is where the new features (if any!) will come.
However, I've never seen a change log for these units listed anywhere, so who knows!
-
I found a Russian or Czech webpage a few weeks ago with nav pro firmware on it but I can't find it on my bookmarks. I wonder if the same thing will happen with the rns510 firmwares where they become available on line?
-
No DAB radio stuff from the local radio station, the slideshow things was blank with a DAB logo only.
-
Ah, shame that it still doesn't work on newer models, but makes me feel a little better that I'm not missing out on something
Guess we'll have to wait for the MIB II to hit the Golf as it is in the new Passat and Polo, before we get ll those new features as well as car-net etc ?

I found an interesting thread on a German speaking forum
http://www.golf7gti.com/topic.php?t=5718&page=1 (http://www.golf7gti.com/topic.php?t=5718&page=1)
18 pages currently, it mentions a firmware of 0388, and also provided a download link as well for a 1.4GB ZIP file with the update (page 16, post 158)
I've downloaded it, but am rather apprehensive about attempting to update the head unit in case of bricking it!!
* will post a file structure picture later *
-
I have this file as well (from this German site), and updated my DP with it without any problems.
-
Notice any differences in operation?
-
Right, took a deep breath and went for it....
* I will take NO responsibility if you decide to do this for yourself and it doesn't work as anticipated *
Please do your own research before carrying out any changes
This was my software version previously. 0376, with hardware 5G0 035 020 E

Using the software link in the German forum thread above, I downloaded the 1.4GB zip file, and extracted all files to the root directory of a SD card - I think you'll need a card of 8GB or higher and I used an empty 32GB class 10 SDHC card for speed (with no other files on the card)
I also suggest you use a Windows machine, rather than a Mac, as OS X has a 'feature' of creating various hidden system files on the SD card which confuse the hell out the Discover Pro, and are a PITA to manually delete
With the Discover Pro switched on and operational, I then held down the MENU button on the headunit for 10 seconds to enter the service mode, then selected 'Software/Hardware versions' then 'Update", then selected the source as SD card
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/phope1/IMG_0656_zpsqm0rbeyi.jpg)
A few on screen prompts followed, followed by a screen that said this
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/phope1/IMG_0663_zpsnrjt0rnc.jpg)
I held down the power button on the DP to reset the unit and held my breath whilst it restarted, for what seemed an eternity :D
Success :) - I now had a screen that asked me what I would like to update, so just pressed all, and let it do the updates automatically
It does warn you it could take a long time, and not to power off the car or start the engine either.
In my case, it wanted to update 4 files
A number of screens like this then followed over the next 5-10 minutes
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/phope1/IMG_0659_zpsxcuiadnt.jpg)
Followed by another restart screen
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/phope1/IMG_0663_zpsnrjt0rnc.jpg)
After another restart, this was the next screen I was presented with this
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/phope1/IMG_0664_zpsblofhskc.jpg)
Pressed the summary, and had a list like this, which I take to show which software has been updated from my earlier version
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/phope1/IMG_0665_zpshuqnlxt4.jpg)
I then pressed the back arrow, and pressed close, and had yet another restart screen prompt
When it all booted back up again, success :)
- No radio stations presets/logos lost
- No navigation presets/POIs lost
- Phone was still paired/favourites still stored
- Voice control still worked
Version info now shows as below, but for some reason, it now reports my head unit as a D version rather than the previously shown E
I'll try and pair my work Blackberry phone later, as it was one phone that was having hassles previously pairing - I suspect there will be no difference as my colleagues also have various Bluetooth hassles with their identical Blackberry devices across a variety of cars.
Overall, the unit does seem a little faster overall between changing stations, etc but too early to tell if there has been any benefit in doing this (compared to my previous version, anyway)

Interesting..is this nav pro only? Or would us with the poverty spec nav be able to do it?
-
phope - in a nutshell, what is the point of this? I'm not being tricky, I honestly don't understand. Cheers!
-
The point was to see if there were any incremental updates to the head unit software (akin to Apple sending through updates to your phone or apps) that may have made a difference to a couple of small flaws
For example, my work Blackberry connects perfectly to my A6 via Bluetooth, but is very problematic with the Discover Pro - connection drops, poor voice quality, etc - software updates from VW (normally dealer only) may rectify known bugs in earlier software versions
-
Thanks for that, I think I understand, if a fix doesn't involve my socket set then I'm usually all at sea!
-
Have you seen any sign of the bugs the 388 firmware is supposed to have?
Namely, not fading the audio when a sat nav comand is issued and a problem where the bass disappears when the volume is increased to 50% or more.
-
Do you know if it matters it you have Dynaudio or not ?
Is there a different 0388 if you do ?
-
I don't have Dynaudio so can't tell you about that
I've just tried the radio and media players on full volume several times - no change in sound quality
I'd need to check about the sat-nav announcements - mine has never reduced the radio/media sound when playing an announcement, but have perhaps haven't set that up correctly in the sound sub-menus to begin with
-
Well as Phope said, it's quite nerve racking, especially as when mine eventually restarted, I saw the "welcome to VW" splash screen, then the GTD screen but no "Powered by Dynaudio" splash screen - I thought oh crap !
Happily, the unit re-started again and this time the Dynaudio screen appeared (phew) and this time everything was fine. The unit definitely seems a little quicker and everything works as it should. Obviously mine was a bigger leap than Phope's units (going from 0200 to 0388), but mine still only took about 35 minutes, with the longest part appearing to be the loading of the TTS Voice files.
Dynaudio is still there and still sounds fantastic. I've also noticed that if I'm set to manual zoom on the maps (rather than autozoom), and then start a route, it used to default back to Wolfsburg in Germany, but under 0388, that bug appears to have gone/ I'll do some more testing over the next few days.

Mine showed that 4 updates were required - how many for you?

As an aside (and I can't remember if it was you that mentioned it previously) but have they fixed the thing where (if you've got the rear view camera) it used to fade the background of the window that the parking sensor display appeared in when reversing?

8 for me

Unfortunately not Gnasher, the overlay still shows for a number of seconds

Does yours still disappear though - mine stays on permanently now.
-
Gnasher - no my overlay disappears after a couple of seconds like it always did.
-
Mmmmm,
Mine used to disappear fairly quickly but now it stays on permanently - I mean I've sat there with it in reverse for minutes and it's still there.
Although I've only got the CMS, so it's not really that relavent to this thread lol.

Hi
I've read somewhere about FW390, however I cant find any download link for it. Does any one have some info about FW390?
Regards
-
As far as I know you can't update firmware on the new units like you could with the rns. It's dealer update only.
-
Its not easy but doable. Updated my one from 200 to 388 but just wondering if someone have FW390
Regards
-
Where did you get 388 from?

-
There's a new version for MIB1: 0407. It works good, fixes sound problems people have encountered.
-
What sort of sound problems?
-
How did you get the updated firmware - carried out at the dealer?

Did you manage to get this done at the dealership? I'm running 0290 at the moment so an old version.
