Ladies and Gents,
I have a 2010/59 GTI Dsg with what I believe to be a RNS510 Navigation System, I'm looking for a software upgrade to the nav as it is pretty much 5 Yeats out of date now.
I've been using Google maps more and more as the current nav will just give the fastest route in best conditions which as we all know isn't always the fastest route, will the update give a better handle on this?
Is there a such disc or software upgrade possible and where would I be able to do or source the required disc? Or any advice is welcome on how to get anything better then VW offer.
Thanks for all your help.

Depending on the revision of your RNS ( see sticker on top of it when pulled out) there are various updates to do to the firmware. Have a google for rns 510 firmware and do alot of reading wouldn't want to brick it now; and to make sure you get the right version for your rns.
This will make it generally quicker and enable full postcode etc; but to go with that latest maps is a must. You can go to vw and get official maps but costs £££ or can get from other places for much less £!
And once you done all of that you can go to somewhere like pocketgpsworld and get all the POI you could ever need!

Andy,
Thanks very much, I'll start to look at the firmware. Have you had any experince with any 3rd party re seller for the sat nav disc?
Thanks again

On my RNS 315 you need to set it into Dynamic mode for routes for it to take into account traffic etc. I've ran it side by side with Google Maps and the ETA/ Route recommendations are pretty accurate. If you don't change that setting it will just default to trying to pick the 'fastest' route.

Good advice, thanks.

I 'acquired' my maps off the internet

That will do! Thanks
