Title: Wheel bearing recommendations
Post by: colgtiturb on 13 March 2015, 17:35: Hi All,

Got to change my drivers side wheel bearing soon as its grumbling like mad!

Any recommendations good or bad as to which are best?? Don't really want to spend £61 on a genuine VW bearing if I can help it, anyone know who manufactures them for VW??

I've heard SKN bearings are ok, ordered one at ECP & they provided a Febi Bilstein one, declined paying £38 for that when Febi Bilstein bearings can be had on eBay for £18 delivered...

Any other places to buy?

Post by: Wazzzer on 13 March 2015, 22:30: the bearing can wear the surface of the hub away. What's the difference between the Anni and standard GTI bearings?

Post by: boneybradley on 14 March 2015, 10:15: The only difference i can see if the normal golf use a hub nut, where as the Anni/R32 use a hub bolt. Bearing seems the same size

That's possible, Bearings are same size but it's a possibility they are more heavy duty?

(I know with the Mk3 the standard and GTi bearings themselves are the same or have the same markings etc and it is just the sundries that are different)

Mine shows GTI 25th as bearing kit 8L0 498 625 and the standard mk4 as 1J0 498 625

As it is a 180 late version is the Anni/R32 kit needed rather than normal? Had a quick look on ECP and same for both but would rather have a more heavy duty bearing as on 18" wheels and quite low.

Post by: Mr_Orange on 01 April 2015, 06:59: Heavy duty bearing comes with a large torx bolt, standard comes with a nyloc nut. Depends which driveshafts it has fitted.
