So I went to my dealer the other week enquiring about how much it'd cost me to change up to a Golf R from my GTI. After much bartering we managed to get down to a reasonable price and I took the plunge. This forum is expensive! :D
So ordered for next September is;
3DR MK7 R
DSG
Pearlescent Black
Vienna Leather
Discover Nav Pro
Reverse Camera
Keyless Entry
High Beam Assist
Ironically the only two things that I've spec'd again from my GTI is the reverse camera and the DSG! I didn't bother with DCC (after having it on my GTI for a year and a half and not being able to tell the difference to the suspension as many of you have probably already heard from me :D) and I didn't bother with Dynaudio either as I've now had chance to listen to my brothers standard sound system on his R and it's more than good enough in my opinion. I found that I was forever changing the settings on Dynaudio to try and get it sounding right.
No sunroof this time either. As I'm fed up of it squeaking.
As for the wheels. The Pretorias are lovely I agree. But I'll be using my Cadiz for winter wheels and buying a nice set of 19" BBS CH-R's in Satin Black for my summer tyres.
Special thanks to Monkeyhanger who helped me fully understand the way the numbers work which allowed me to get a cracking deal.
Ordered for September 1st on a 65 plate :)

Nice one.
Interesting you have went from the Nav to the Nav Pro. What's your thinking on that one?
-
Just don't change anything on your order, or you'll be waiting until December for it!
So you didn't fancy the Prets and then buy some 17/18"ers for your winter wheels? Probably for the best seeing as adding Prets to my order has resulted in a whole new order and an extra 12 weeks wait. You'll also get to choose your preferred Summer rubber rather than (likely) being stuck with Bridgestone RE050s.
Leather is surely going to be a BW45 freebie now you've specced it!
-
Upgrade the leather to the Carbon Nappa - it's great, worth the extra cash, you won't regret it I promise!
Exciting times, well done - you must be very excited!!

Fantastic, you won't regret it. The R is a fantastic car imo
-
What took you so long, it was an inevitability
Nice spec. I'm also aiming for a 1st Sept handover. Half hoping I'll benefit from any BW22 changes, you never know

Another convert to the R club

Welcome to the expanding club and looking forward to seeing one on CH-Rs

My brother has the Nav Pro so i've had chance to look at it and play around with it. First impressions is the screen is much, much noticeably bigger and fills the space very well in the centre. The bigger screen gives the interior an even better feel for quality. The reverse camera looks much better with it, the 3D maps are great on the Nav and the 64GB SSD drive will come in handy i'm sure.
So while an extra grand is steep, I think it's worth it.

This was one option I considered but after seeing a Pearl Black R on black OZ Racing alloys it made me re-consider, because it looks phenomenal and very stealth like;

Originally I wanted the Carbon Nappa seats but I just can't justify myself spending almost £3,000 on some seats. It was hard enough stomaching the £1700 for the Vienna! I just dislike those grey bolsters on the R cloth seats.

Haha, let's hope they add something! (Not leather MH thank you very much! :P) I'll be cancelling and re-ordering if they do!

Haha :D Yes you all won me over. I will just say though that I still think the GTI is an incredible car! Probably is still the best all-rounder in the hatchback world but it was a choice between continue spending money modding the GTI or grab an R. I think pushing any more power through the front wheels on the GTI and it might start getting too much, obviously the AWD of the R will help massively with this. Hence why i've also dropped from 5 Doors to 3 Doors, decided to be selfish while I can

The black on black looks uber stealth
Still glad I ordered DBP

+1 on DBP should get mine in a couple of weeks can't wait, your right about pushing to much power out of a front wheel drive car it will end in tears like it did for me when I broke a engine mount , caused by excessive wheel hopping.
-
i'm prob one of the few who doesn't get excited by that black one, especially now its got red callipers

As a fellow DBP owner (albeit a lowly GTD) it is a pain in the arse to keep clean, but, for the 15 seconds it is clean it's a stunning colour.

This.
Also, if you don't mind me asking what was the cost for change. I'm looking to change albeit to either a app GTI or r but need to get my head round the numbers.

I'm like Mr OCD when it comes to my cars so don't worry it'll stay clean :)
Cost to change was the GTI, £2000 and monthly payments going up by £100. But it required a looooot of hard negotiating :)

Lowly? GTDs are beasts (apparently).

MisterP... whats your thought process for changing from a GTD to maybe GTi PP ?
Just wondered as I haven't made the leap yet and my head says GTD but heart says GTi PP... am worried if I go for the sensible choice I will be a little disappointed..

Collected September 1st, remapped September 2nd?

Tbh, it's more of a circumstances thing. I'm not using the diesel for its purpose and in terms of running costs it's the same. It's why i thought well I will have owned the GTD for 2 years in September maybe worthwhile changing up. Only issue for me is numbers. I don't want to change if the numbers don't make sense. I would much prefer the pp gti over stock due to the additional extras retaining some more value now that the residuals had been re-jigged. The R is also, another option but again it's a numbers game. I want to make sure that a change in personal circumstances won't leave me out sync.

Im thinking of changing to the R wagon when it comes out but still considering the gtd wagon. I havent moved house yet so that will play a big factor as to what I change to when the time comes.

You'll have to start a seperate R wagon sub section within the fledging R section of the mk7 section. It's getting complicated
