Hi
I would like to know the benefits of a high performance air intake?
And which one to buy? Piper cross or VW racing?
Thank you

To be honest.....about the only thing you will gain is a nicer sounding induction noise.
You would struggle to noitce any performance increase......
If its the sound your after any closed system will be good....if your after an actual performance increase and dont want to risk a remap....then a tuning box of some sort would be a better way to spend your money.
My response is based on previously buying a expensive intake system on a previous car.
Hope that helps

I have a piper cross open intake which costs around £300. If you are very aware of your car, you will notice the subtle changes. My car is remapped to 320bhp and there is a noticeable decrease in spool time and throttle response at top end. The car just feels and breathes better with the filter.
With the car at stock, I can't notice a thing and feels no different than stock air filter.
There is the obvious noise change with the kit, which is a love hate thing. I personally love it. Let's the little boy racers know, the car isn't stock.
Personally i love my intake and think it's worth the cash, but everyone is different.

Thank you both for the information.
I have a DTUK box fitted so around 280bhp.
Personally I love the stock noise. How is this noise enhanced?

Not the case with good air intakes now buddy. A lot of development and science goes into these things from the top brands.
I have the VWR R600 intake fitted with Revo Stage 1.
With the stock intake my rolling road reads 286BHP & 300lbft of torque over 3 runs. Then fitted the VWR R600 intake and the rolling road read 312BHP & 322lbft of torque over 3 runs. Both done on the same day. With an hour inbetween.
So as you can see the gains are very real and very noticeable (although admittedly you need to be near 300BHP to see any worthwhile gains.)
My intake is enclosed so quieter than the open cone ones which sound cool at first but soon become annoying in my experience.
