Title: dodgy electrics...
Post by: vw_golf_nutter on 05 March 2015, 20:37
hi all,
so wen i first got my golf a few days ago the seller said that the alarm drains the battery if the battery is left connected and left for more than a day or 2.
i have noticed though that the battery terminals seem to small for the connectors as the connectors are done up as tight as they will go and they are still a bit loose...
also the clock display on the dash is very faint and fades in and out, ive also noticed none of the dash lights work and the electric window switch for driver side stays lit up if the car is on or off...
it has some issues...
any ideas where to start please as i have no idea

start with the route of your problem ....
the loose battery terminals.. probably the wrong battery fitted by previous owner ?
check that first , as it will cause low voltage to the rest of the car, also it won't be charging properly
& if undersize it wont have enough guts come winter time
it will probably solve the other issue of the display fading in & out

ah ok that would be good if it did sort it all out.
my friend said that you can get metal sleves from halfords to make the terminals bigger, would temporarily sort the problem i guess, is that any good or a no no?

You could get connectors from Halfords that fit too.

I'm not convinced its responsible for your battery drain though. Do you have an alarm or aftermaket stereo fitted. How old is the battery, if the battery terminals are original then chances are you have the wrong battery for the car.
