Thats about a 5k mark up comparing it to this one at the same garage. http://www.gtiworld.co.uk/used-cars/Volkswagen/Golf%20GTIGTDR%20MK6%20Hatchback%205-Dr/2012/604840634/123155/ Ok this is a 62 plate and half the mileage. My standard alloys are 18" Charelston and sat nav and bi xenon lights.

Parkers came in at £14025. I washed it the other day and it looks good so does the polo. Did mention to the salesman that it has a stigma of being a woman's car!

I always think Parker's prices are on the optimistic side.

Doesn't have that stigma in the way that say the Beetle does, I wouldn't let it worry you.  Anyway, what's wrong with a woman's car

Nothing, i think i had a hairdressers car as my second car, Toyota MR2 roadster. Gone now but what a car, i've even had evil thoughts of replacing it with a Mini

So you do have a penchant for women's cars then     Good job the TT has evolved into a (slightly) more manly car, otherwise you'd be eyeing one of them up next

Polo GTI over a Mini anytime.

£14450 to £15050 better.

Looks like they were quoting you the lower end trade in price against full list price for the Polo GTI, which would give the highest cost to change.

You should be able to do better than that; try Drive the Deal, Orangewheels, Carwow etc. to get an idea of what deals are available on the Polo. Dealers through Carwow and dealers used by Orangewheels will also do part exchange, although you've always got the option of selling privately. Both DTD and Orangewheels are quoting around £2k off the price of a vanilla Polo GTI. VW will contribute a further £1k towards the finance contribution if you take VW finance. So there are deals to be had that don't require too much hard work on your part.

Remember, the 'cost to change' is the important figure, so don't get too hung up on the trade in value. However, never go with the first figure a dealer gives you; always do a little research first, so you know what's realistic. Remember, when you're thinking of buying a new car, the Internet is your friend.

Sound advice.  Get some broker quotes and use them as a bargaining tool when you go to dealers, it could make all the difference.  And if they can't get near your desired 'cost to change' figure through combined discount and trade-in price, then you have the option of going down the broker route, but may have to find an alternative means of selling your existing car if they don't do trade-in.

£14450 to £15050 better.

So depending on the condition of your car, somewhere in the middle of the Parkers and CAP quotes. Out of interest have you done webuyanycar?  Usually laughably low quotes imo.

Did we buy any car a wee while ago and gave £14250. I'll see what my local dealer says. Last time i was in he admired the car even with the Milltek exhaust on. Carwow didn't list the GTi model as an option.

Call me cynical, but a dealer will almost always admire your car and tell you what they think you want to hear so they can hook you in, and quickly become your 'best friend'. It would be unfair to tar all salespeople with the same brush as there are some pretty decent ones out there, but admiration for your car doesn't usually equate to top book price, or getting the best deal overall for you.

The Polo GTI might be a recent addition on the Carwow site and could be the reason it wasn't listed when you looked, but I've just gone on their website this morning, specc'd one up and asked for quotes. I'll post up the offers when they come through.

EDIT; first Carwow offer has just come through; specc'd as a 3 door pure white Polo GTI, with Light and Sight pack, Cruise and Park pack and electric folding mirrors. List price; 19,820. Cash price; 18,058 (8.9% discount), price with finance offer; 17,058 (13.9% discount). Includes 2 years free servicing from this dealer. I'd expect some of the other offers I get sent will better this (see below).

Second Carwow offer; Cash price £17,867 (9.9% discount), Finance offer £16,867 (14.9% discount).

Whatever route you decide to go, good luck, but I can't stress enough the importance of doing your research first, so you can be fully prepared and get the deal that's right for you, if you decide to buy the traditional route through a VW dealership near you.

Car wow is a good site to get a deal, so wait and see what other offers you get!

Your GTD is a desirable car so I wouldn't be accepting anything less than the CAP Clean price for it. WBAC offer sounds reasonable for a quick sale.

Don't want to hijack the thread but I got a price for my 2009 GTi from WBAC of £10700 I thought that was canny for a quick sale
