Title: Things that just arn't working properly...
Post by: ajmoir36 on 25 February 2015, 17:55
Just what I have noticed in 3.5weeks of ownership.

The annoying -
Keyless - sometimes you touch the handle when the car is locked and it locks it again, each time you touch it, it locks again. Only way around it press the unlock button on the key fob.

Keyless - sometimes it wont lock when you touch the handle, again repeatedly looked like a goon trying to get it to work and then just decided to press the lock button instead.

Press the start button to start the car and you get no needle sweep and the mpg is the same as it was when you left it 8 hours ago, resets just as you move off.

Emergency braking, slammed on the brakes no reason, lucky the person behind me did not crash into me. Was in a 30 zone. (only once so far the person behind left a rather large gap after that).

Driver Profile button, mode selection not remembered on restart (software update may be required to fix).

DSG looks like its going to stall but doesn't when braking to a halt (revs sort of dive). Probably due to the fact that it has to down shift from 4th at 20mph before it reaches a standstill which it hastily seems to do).

Sometimes when pressing the rear wiper for the washer it doesn't bother to wipe the wiper until the stalk is re-applied.

One instance of you are going to crash, Red Car logo in the middle of the MFD and lots of bonging for no reason.(Fortunately it didn't do any braking).

MPG has no hope of ever reaching 48mpg (33mpg is the best I could muster on a 80 mile journey and that was a lot of 50mph zone on the motorway 6 junctions of the M6).

ACC seems to be really far forwards even on the shortest setting (different to a mk7 hire car I drove). Yet sometimes it waits for ages before doing anything. (Random).

You need to format any USB disks to NTFS otherwise it doesn't work properly if you have lots of files (manual states FAT32).

Sharp edges in the under seat drawer compartments, rather small drawers too. Haven't really found anything that fits either.

The car manual wallet doesn't fit in the glove box unless its at the bottom at the back.(stops you from shutting the glove box).

DSG downshifts from 4->3 and 3->2 are not really smooth in D. (Sport mode is brilliant).

Comfort DCC and 19"s is not as comfortable as a mk6 GTD on 18" Vancouver's.

Sound system - sounds rubbish compared to a mk6 with Dynaudio just no bass.

I want plain old cruise control back the ACC annoys me too much, slows you down before pulling out on the motorway, you have to pull out miles away which makes you look like a tool. Arggghh!! I find now that I turn it off and over take, then put it back on afterwards. Un-economical otherwise it slows you down and then speeds you back up again.

Wind noise seems to be worse than the mk6.

The boot on the R is smaller.

The good -
Everything else, fast, starts ever time (touches wood), looks good, bigger sat nav screen and more responsive than the RNS510 (it was slow), better lane guidance on the sat nav, better speed signs on the sat nav screen. I am sure there are other things.

Anybody else get any of the above annoyances.

Looking forward to Sunday now when I collect mine.

Will report and let you know what I find as I have a lengthy drive back, so will be able to explore its good and bad points.

Forgot to say love the blue interior lighting.  And dislike the puddle lights not working with the mirrors folded.

Had my GTI since the October and have never encountered a single problem you are describing - not one of them.

Only problem I have had is the auto hold failing a couple of times but that has not happened again since last November.

Not got keyless so can't comment on that one.

DSG is silky smooth up/down the gears.

Love the ACC on the motorway. Keep mine at medium distance and car keeps a consistent 2 second gap to the car in front.

Got my USB formatted to FAT32 and work fine with Nav Pro.

I'm on 18"s without DCC and the ride is great

Best MPG yet for me is only 39mpg

Not noticed any real wind noise at all - and never did in the MK6 either

Driver profiles are always remembered for me

Needle sweeps everytime, but not noticed that mpg resets only when you move off, but then again that is kind a what I would expect to happen...

Use my under seat drawers for cloths, etc, yes they're small but I like em

You're not exactly selling it ajmoir

No, seriously, it's useful to get a heads up on what to watch out for, especially with the keyless.  Does make you think that all that new(ish) tech, i.e, collision control, electronic handbrake, start/stop etc, is more trouble than it's worth, and though it may result in reduced insurance premiums, lower emissions and so on, could happily do without it

The boot is known to be considerably smaller to accommodate the Haldex 4WD system. 19s always a harsher ride than 18s, and the under seat drawers in the mk6 are next to useless as well.

With the DSG, I think it's more a case of just adapting how you drive, it's a bit of a learning curve but after a few weeks it'll be second nature.

Did I dream it or did I read somewhere that if you turn the acc off, i can't remember how but holding down the traction button twice definitely does it, then you can use the cc like the old style? If not just set the limiter to the speed you want and keep ya foot down. Thats what I do and its more econimal than acc.

And the acc responds quicker in sport mode

It could be the push to start button that causes the failure to needle sweep.

Is surprising really how many things are quirks.

I'm sure mine is the same.

I know you can definitely use the 'old style' not adaptive cruise control. I remember seeing the setting...but can't remember how off the top of my head. I'll post back later on with further info.

The only quirk I had from the mk6 was turning the mirror knob failed to fold out the mirrors occasionally and if you got in and turned the ignition call all too fast it used to bing ESP fault and then clear it.

I have read others having heavy downshifts, so just figured that's normal. The keyless thing is just pants really.

Obviously I have scanned it on multiple occasions no fault codes. If I didn't buy used I would not have ordered keyless at all. There must be others that have had weirdness with the keyless system.

My new GTD does,nt do the needle sweep on every start either?  I'm non keyless btw.
It's something I've been meaning to ask on here for a while as to the reason for this.

Isn't it something that can be set by VCDS? So the fact that it doesn't do the needle sweep is not s defect as such, it just hasn't been set to do it...

There's thread about VCDS things...

It should do it - so if it isn't doing it then it needs rectifying!

Maybe the car was tweaked by the previous owner...

I doubt if the dealer did some kind of factory reset on it - if thats even possible?

I would say mine misses every tenth sweep or something. Not really counted.

i should have made that more clear. the needle sweep works on the car alright, its just that it does,nt sweep every time i start, seems not to bother sometimes. it may not sweep sometimes if the keys are left in the ignition between starts.
i cant seem to find a pattern to it.is it just on first cold start up maybe?
is it definitely meant to sweep on every single start up ? car is brand new btw.

My GTD sweeps every time. Although I dint have keyless. The needle sweep is coded the same though through VCDS regardless of having keyless or not so if it's not doing it I'd say it's a fault.
