Afternoon all,
Been lurking on here for a while as I start the process of looking for a replacement for my 10 yr old SLK350. I've always wanted to get back to the VW stable, having had an Eos 2.0 TSI (Gti engine) for a year or so before rejecting it due to leak issues . Great car otherwise.
Looking at a GTi with PP and local dealer has said he expects to have a new demo in shortly for me to drive. Sadly the wife will probably drive the car as much as I will so she will have her say too . She likes the look of the new 2 series convertible and the Mini Paceman Cooper S. Completely different cars obviously but we have a Discovery for load carrying and towing so the new one needn't necessarily be hugely practical. It's early days (I'd like to sell the Merc first for starters) but looking forward to the process starting. I will keep looking here for positives to pass on to the Mrs regarding the Golf !!

Do you like the look of the Paceman...?
235i? or 218d...?
I'd still have the golf though

GFR - not sure about Paceman at all - need to see it in the flesh.
2 series would likely be 220i or maybe a 228i at a stretch.....definitely not a diesel simply on the basis that the car will do 8k miles pa at the most.

Welcome. You'll get tons of info on here.

Well i know feck all about beemers other than the old 125 and 130 were the same engine just a detuned version. If the 220 and 228 use the same hardware, id save my pennys for a remap and get the 220.

Thanks guys for the welcome and the input. As I say, it's early days so all views and constructive abuse welcomed over coming weeks
p3asa - how do you rate the Dynaudio in your GTD ? I had it in the Eos and thought it was outstanding - I am no audiophile but I thought the clarity was superb at any volume. I seem to recall it was about £900 as an option - now almost half that in the Golf ! Maybe more complicated in the Eos, who knows.

I have the Dynaudio... I think it is great although many on here don't.
It's clear and punchy and (amazingly for VW options) reasonably priced.
It knocks the Harman-Kardon on the BMW into a cocked hat, and is marginally better than the Bose system in my 911...

I'm no audiophile but can appreciate good sound and certainly think the DynAudio delivers.
Absolutely no distortion and crystal clear at just over half volume and that is really loud.

What settings are you using? I think the Dynaudio is terrible and just makes the car rattle to bits. Seems like I'm driving a different GTI to most, lol.

I used to think so too savage bet you have it on dynsmix. Try authentic and alter the bass to suit. Much better imo

I have my dynaudio on Dynamic and I don't think I have adjusted the equalizer (would have to double check). Sounds great to me, no distortion or rattles at loud settings (50%+). I like some bass heavy music too - was playing Moderat's first album (self titled - Moderat) at 50% ish yesterday and sounded awesome!
Not sure what would explain your car Mr Savage, other than being able to compare with someone else? Maybe the default is not actually the default (like it's calibrated incorrectly or such like.)
I make sure I don't have any lose items in the doors and also that the rear cubby holes are padded with shopping bags if I have stuff in there - anything lose does like to vibrate.
