Title: How often do you polish.
Post by: Misterp on 14 February 2015, 19:03
May be a silly question but if your not deep cleaning the car and you wanting to wash and clean and use a sealant as a drying aid do ppl still all in one polish after every wash.

Not exactly sure what you mean

I don't use all-in-one polish at all.  Only use dedicated polish with a DA couple of times a year followed by sealant and wax etc.  Occasionally use Lime Prime lite (non abrasive pre wax cleanser) on polished paint before wax.

If I'm not giving it the full works, then every few weeks, after the wash it gets a top up of sealant or wax or sometimes both, and very occasionally a glaze thrown in there too   From time to time I use DoDo Juice Tropical Red Mist which is a sort of QD/spray sealant.  Gives a brilliant gloss and lovely beading but is a bit of a faff to wipe off so depends if I can be bothered.

Sorry should have been clearer.

The last time I did a big wash (if you remember my last post here) i decontaminated the paint clayed etc. Finished with the all in one auto finesse polish and then a sealent.

My question is say for example I wash the car every three weeks would it be wise to top up the polish Everytime I wash the car or every so often.

I hope that makes sense.

If you did the full works why do you need to polish a car that's less than a year old? Wash, wax and seal or wash, seal and wax should be sufficient.

Agree.  Unless you've got lots of swirls, marring etc, save the polishing until it's really needed, every three weeks is far too frequent.

If you want to mask light swirls, fine scratches etc in between polishing, try a glaze. Poorboys Black Hole is very good.  Then apply sealant and/or wax on top.

Thanks for the help guys. Was just thinking That the all in one as it contains wax etc may be less abrasive to use with an applicator every few months. Obviously a machine Polish isn't required.

A quick Detailer will give you some minimal protection too which could be done after every wash, then when the weather improves a full monty. I always do a spring and autumn full job and then just top it up every other wash, but then I do wash my cars at least once a week.
