Title: Spax TSX Shocks
Post by: Robracer on 12 February 2015, 21:17
Hi guy's & gal's, I managed to get an absolute bargain the other week

A brand new set of Spax TSX shocks & springs. But my question is, I thought spax springs always came in red?
Their clearly branded as Spax on every one, does the difference in colour mean anything what so ever?

Cheers (y)

It means they are rejects and are likely to blow up if anyone under 50 years of age goes anywhere near them.PM me your address and i will arrange safe collection, free of charge of course.

Not that i'm jealous or anything .......................

Most Spax are yellow, so the fronts are good (the black rear's confuse me but Spax do make the kits to order so it's possible they had an odd coloured pair. I will ask my customer who got a spax kit from me a month back to see what colour his were)

Cheer's mate, it would help clear up my curiosity about the colours. The Front shocks are the top adjustable one's, the rear's are fixed damping but in black which also confused me?
I've presently got a set a black Koni top adjustables on the rear of my golf.
I'm not sure wether to keep those on and just install the front Spax shocks, all adjustable then

Different colours normally mean different spring rates when you buy springs.
Are they harder to push down?

From balancing myself on them, only joking! they seem roughly the same in their rebound etc. But I've now come across an odd problem? The top coil on the front springs is wider.. Ie, the usual golf mk3 top spring plate is no to narrow! These Spax springs have a top diameter of 110mm. The standard golf diameter is roughly 60-80mm. I've googled without success!

Any help would be appreciated guys

Mk3 have 2 front spring pigtails sizes 80mm to 95 and then 65mm after. It sounds like they are early type? (and to fit you need new early spring caps)
