People. Me J-reg 16v isn't handling. I recently had new upper bushes, rear wishbone bush, shocks and springs checked over and new tyres fitted. It still handles rotten. I've had the tracking checked at 2 places just to be sure. I know it's gonna be hard to solve without seeing it, but here's the symptoms: The faster you go, the more it tracks to the right. At low speeds it seems to take quite a bit of movement on the steering at any speed to get it to turn. It's got power steering. There's no delay in road wheel moving when you turn the steering wheel at standstill so I don't think the rack's worn. I gave it some wellie yesterday and it felt unstable and torque-steered more than it should. It just feels to me like the fron wheels aren't pointing in the right direction. Any clues, peeps? Also, why do girls stare.......

any strange noises? far off humming?
could be a buckled wheel - hard to tell without driving it

How much did you want for this car again? :-*
-
did you get the camber adjusted also?
mine use to handle like a bag of sh!te even with new shocks, rear axle bushes, top mounts etc
then once i got it 4 wheel aligned, and the camber sorted it suddenly felt like a different car in the handling stakes as the before & after pic showed it had been well out!
then i got a set of Eibach ARB's put on the car, and it made it about 10x better again!!

Roit. The camber thingy sounds interesting. I reckon they did the 4 wheel tracking - they stuck something on all 4 wheels anyway and did their little Kwik Fit Freaky dance. New shocks'n'springs would help I'm sure, but I don't want to waste any money I don't need to. Shady, you're welcome to come and have a drive. She won't be 4 sale til she's peachy. Reckon there's a cupple simple things that just require an expert eye.

When you said rear wishbone bushes, theres no wishbones on rear, rear axle bushes? have you replaced all the bushes on the wishbones on the front? check suspension balljoints, and steering track rod ends for play.
-
Thanks for all the advice chaps. Something's gotta be loose or mis-aligned somewhere. I'll get the 4 wheel tracking checked plus camber and all ball joints, rod ends and bushes. I've just looked at my receipt and here's what it says: 'remove wishbone, replace rear bush x 2', 'replace front susp top mount x 2' so that's what's been done. I'll keep thee posted.

Your probably too fat, lose some weight and take the burden off your GTi or better still buy a 8V ...heheh!!!
