Well, it's looking likely a new box is needed in mine, will any engine and box fit from a mk3? Will any mk4s fit? Thinking, seeing as I'm having to put some work in replacing the box, could make a full project out of it...what will I need for complete engine changes...?
Thaks

Anyone know? Does it have to be a mark 3? Or can it be mk4
-
you need a mk3 box, 020.
-
Ok, I have the 0M1 in now..auto...
Seem to be like rocking horse poo
The original question was..if I'm replacing engine and box together will mk4 engines fit..
Thanks
-
yeah, have a look around, lots of people have fitted mk4 1.8t in the mk3.... not plug and play though
I'd fit a mk3 manual box out of the GTI or 2.0 estate to your engine, unless you have the 1.8 engine in your convertible, then I'd fit the box from the 75hp 1.8 (longer gearing than 90hp).

I was considering the option of converting to manual...big job?
-
Dunno if AGG ECU for auto is different but don't think so.... you will need manual fly wheel I'd imagine, gearbox, obviously all the hardware to change gears in car.... different pedal cluster I'd think......
Not straight forward but people will have done this. Ask your buddy at VW garage, if they are friendly (and been there when mk3 was around) they can probably give you a good idea.
Bit more tricky then straight forward mk3 auto box transplant but easier than fitting manual (or auto) mk4 engine and box

Excellent, thanks
Will continue the search for an auto aswell,

The EPR code isn't listed on this,
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m318/hardmonkeys/Golf%20Cabrio/AE0A3DB9-92E3-4D3A-B1E4-65FA055B2ECE.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/hardmonkeys/media/Golf%20Cabrio/AE0A3DB9-92E3-4D3A-B1E4-65FA055B2ECE.jpg.html)
as long as it says it's for a 2.0l Golf, can i assume I can search for any of the gearbox codes? As the EPR is apparently difficult to get hold of...or is the EPR for the 8v
-
you could always take it out yourself and get it reconditioned and stick it back in?
-
Thought about that too...Been quoted £1650+VAT
-
really? i dont know much about auto box's or even manuals for that matter but when i got mine redone (manual) it cost £400
also you tried stevens vw spares?
-
Yeh I have, rang them yesterday, they haven't...they told me to drive it into a flood lol
-
Swapping to manual is a lot easier with a donor car
-
I bought a donor car a few weeks back, just waiting for my weeks holiday to hurry up now
