Title: My R deserved a wash...
Post by: ajmoir36 on 08 February 2015, 16:56
Valet Pro ph neutral snow foam,
followed by a two bucket wash,
Poorboys EX-P Sealant
Poorboys Blue Natty Paste Wax
Poorboys Wheel sealant.
Not a swirl in sight other than the black trims between the doors.

I have to admit I am in love with the Limestone Grey... (Sorry Tornado Red but the metallic is just Gorgeous under the sun light).

Anyone else have a 40 years Golf sticker?

Then it got dirty on the way to its photoshoot, flaming country lanes and muck at the side of the road.

Nice, love the colour.

Your Limestone grey doesn't look very Limestone Grey in those photos - more like somewhere between Reflex Silver and Carbon Grey. Does it change much in the light? I've seen a few SE/GT Golfs in that colour in the flesh and they all have that champagne/bronze tinge about them i'm not seeing here.

You can't beat the glow of a clean metallic/pearl finish on a sunny day.

It changes a lot in the light and does have a bronze look. Just depends the angle you look at it from. Sometimes it looks more grey.

Looks superb ajmoir, fantastic job

Love the close up shots that really show the metallic flake

Natty's Blue not going to go to waste then by the looks of it

The metallic flake is very nice. Nattys blue is all good and nicely waxed the paint. Need a little warning though as it was 4 degrees when i started. Pleased with the lack of swirls on the paint though.

Looks awesome ajmoir, great car and detail job.

Personally I would like to see the the car+landscape shots without HDR though - stunning backdrop for a shoot!

That's partly why I prefer the close up pics

I'd also be interested to see some landscape shots car of your car without HDR.  I've never been a great fan of HDR and some of the characteristics of that type of photography.  Though it can be great for adding drama and atmosphere, imo it can have a tendency to look 'over processed' with a lot of chromatic aberration.

If you do some non HDR shots be sure to post them up

Due to popular demand non-HDR pics. Much more bronzey.

Nice to see in in it's more natural state

I don't think it does look more bronzey necessarily.  I like the way the LSG changes according to the light, sometimes more grey, sometimes more bronze, and I think it is a brilliant colour against the Pretorias, they really complement each other

I am a Tornado Red -> Limestone Grey convert. Its growing on me...I admit I enjoyed cleaning a car that wasn't so stone chipped the old GTD looked liked the moons surface it was so pitted. But I suppose that's what 80,000 miles does to it.

No shame in having a few (or lot) of stone chips after 80k miles.  Noticed mine's picked up quite a few more thus last year, but then they keep resurfacing the roads with loose chippings

I thought hard about switching to a metallic colour when ordering my R, but, despite the pain involved in keeping on top of it, there's just something about pearl black when it's clean andy I'm seduced every time.

I have to agree a clean black car that is swirlless looks fantastic.

But is there any such thing as a swirless black car?  Only for the time between last polish and next wash

Beautiful car, thanks for adding more pics ajmoir.

They have further confirmed for me my leaning to LSG and prets, if I do ever go to the R.

Booth - I don't think I have seen a DPB R yet (have you?!), can't wait to see your pics when you get it.

Not seen a DBP in the flesh, ffrank.  There are one or two in Rforum and I vaguely remember seeing a pic there some time ago.  There's probably more but I can't be bothered to trawl through the pic threads to look

I think someone else in the MK7 section here has one on order (gazmondo35??) which predates my order so hopefully he'll post some pics up so we can have a look.  Not sure if he's specced prets though.

If I'm honest I think the metallic colours suit the sharper creases of the mk7 in general, but I think with the prets and the brushed silver mirror/lip accents DBP could look fantastic, at least I hope so, otherwise it's an expensive mistake

That's the best colour in the R for me. Very nice indeed.

Its so nice I might need to downgrade from my M135i to one of those in the future

Agree on the colour but not 100% sure it would be a downgrade though, having just come out of a 135 loaner for a month I'd say the only plus the 135 has over the R is the 8 speed box. The interior on the R is a nicer place to be but each to their own I guess.

Yeah used ones seem to fetch a high price to get people who don't want to wait.
