Title: Sat Nav Reset
Post by: Philip1979 on 08 February 2015, 09:38
Hi guys I hope this is posted in the correct section...

I recently (and stupidly) downloaded a torrent that was an update of Western European maps (torrent name: Volkswagen.Navigation.RNS5510.RNS810.V11.West.Europe.DVD9-HETERO- [MUMBAI-TPB]) and without any instructions I assumed you just burnt the DVD and inserted into the DVD drive.

This seemed to be going well until around 2/3 through the downloading of the navigation data being downloaded it stopped and the voice message of "please insert navigation DVD" was heard; tried this a number of times and it does the same; my main issue is that the sat nav system does not work anymore unless i have this DVD inserted!

I really am stumped as what i can do to resolve this issue; can anyone help me get this to work or get me back to the orginal map settings!  If there is a small fee for your help i would be willing to pay!

Some images have been taken to show the messages I get.

Hope you can help!

Kind regards

Philip

Have you not got the original maps DVD that came with the car?Try reloading that to get back what you had before.

Also have you given it long enough to do the update.Last year I updated to V10 and it took ages to upload and complete the process.I am sure it took longer than an hour.I was getting doubts at the time but it isn't instant.

Andy thanks for the reply but unfortunately I do not have the original maps as I got the car second hand.  I believe it may be a firmware issue with my unit that is stopping this happening unfortunately I have no clue how to resolve this issue or what firmware I have installed on my unit.

Done some research on the firmware info and was able to get my units details; note how the maps section state nothing has been installed!

Anyone help me update the firmware and load maps?

What type of DVD are you using?
I had problems like this, then I used DVD+DL discs and have never had a problem since.

Might also be a firmware issue as the partition sizes were changed in later revisions and that might be to accommodate larger maps.

Yes it downloads with ignition off, just switch the radio on, does take about an hour.

I suspect you may need to update the firmware, I am running version 5238 with the V12 maps.

Updating the firmware will probably erase any music you have on the internal disk and may also require recoding of the radio with VCDS.

I could give you a hand with this although in total it would take about two hours to do.

There is always a risk of bricking the unit with this procedure but so far I haven't had any problems.

Mike thanks for your reply; all my music etc is on a SD card so no need to worry about that.

Do you have the firmware & maps on disks at the moment that I could borrow? I live in Dundonald but my g/f lives in Dunmurry so would travel anywhere to get them and don't mind if a fee is involved.

Look forward to your reply.

I don't have any disks at the moment but I could burn a couple for you.

I think you will need the radio recoded after the firmware update so I would have to be there for that as you need a VCDS cable.

I think you need ten posts to PM me so just keep asking questions
