Title: Golf's
Post by: NovaSR on 22 October 2003, 12:42
Hello

I am thinkin about getting a MK2 golf GTI, but I dunno if I shood cos their not very quick. Iv got a nova 1.3 sr wiv K+N and magnex system and it eats golfs for brekfast.  I have raced loadsa golfs including the VR6 an beat them evrytime.I even raced a V5 4MOTOIN and pulld away in evry gear until about a ton then it caught up a bit.I think they look OK but their to slow.  If I get the 16V, wot mods can I do to make it quik??  My mates got a modded uno an he says even he can beat most golfs

Ta

jim

P.S.  Wots the insurance group for the 16 valvers cos im only 17

*picks self up off floor after laughing*

group 14 for 8v and group 16 for 16v afaik

to be a proper race you have to both agree before u start you're racing. u can't just overtake a v6 golf and say you ate it for breakfast when the other guy could of just been tootling along and keeping up with you. (or though it wasn't worth the fuel racing a noisey nova ;))

mods? more air = more fuel = more power... ;D

I really do not think your 1.3SR has mk2 golf gti's and definatly not a VR6 NO CHANCE.. A standard GOLF gti mk 8v or 16v would beat a nova SR in my books.

 ;)

i have a Nissan that could beat it?! lol, as long as we don't race near corners. or in the wet. nor uphills. nor into head winds. and if we compare how much oil we both use, mine will eat your Nova.

sorry, couldn't help myself....lol

Get a golf GTI and feel the power, if you think you can take it.
It's not the car, it's knowing how to unleash the power.
Drive a gti & then get back to me & if they are so slow why are u even interested in them?

The way I look at it is. If I am going to go fast. I may as well be able to stop, and corner, and not have the bloody thing broken down all the time. Thats why I have always liked the VW's. I have had performance cars by other makers in the past and always came back to VW because they hold together. The new trend with performance cars seems to be "let's buy a jap box and race it just like in the movies!" Great. Where is that Evo or Skyline going to be 15 years down the road? more than likely in the scrappies yard.  :)

Nova quicker than a gti?
Jordan has an I.Q. of 180????????????

Oh and I must say that the 205 gti wasnt as quick as its own heater matrix dumping antifreeze allover my feet - and the way it has to tickover at 1200 revs when the lights are on at night just oozes quality!

Ive got a number for you nova boy

0800 800 800 - Call NHS Direct - you have compulsive ignorance disorder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess a nova would be great if U are 17.  I recently drove a 'boyed up' 205gti, it was alright wizzing about up to 45mph (maybe 50 at a push), the build quality etc was absolute toss though!  fortunataly britain is covered in hills, so we all need some grunt under our bonnets, a golf can provide this!
(i asy this with a small pleasantly supprised smile, having only owned one for 6 weeks!)

Post by: shunta on 30 November 2003, 11:29
I had a Pug 205 1.9 GTi before my golf 8v and I would never ever go back.  The peugeot spent more time off the road than on it, the build quality was terrible and if you ever have to do any work on it (which is quite often), it was a complete b!tch.
I only got the Golf because it came along at the right time and price and I love it (now that my heater is working).

lol. What a stupid, ill informed claim to make. At the end of the day it's a nova, I can't really say i've ever seen a nova which is 'quick' in my life. Oh and how the hell is a 17 year old going to afford to insure a Gti of any sort?

Post by: GavG60 on 25 February 2004, 13:17
This all sounds very familiar....I think I've seen this nova.

Nova driver, where you the one on the seafront last year, bent over your bonnet with your trousers round your ankles while your mum sorted you with a strap-on? burberry cap? lots of argos catalogue gold on your wrists?

You should really try and do that kind of thing back at the trailer park with your cousins/sisters.....

nuff sed freak.

I have raced one of my m8's who used to own a 1.3 nova SR in my mk1. We were going down some back roads near my house, I?m doing about 50-60 and he is all over my arse. After about a mile we came to a dual carriage way section, so I let him pull along side of me just so I could look over laugh at him as I dropped it into third at which point he started to drop back and disappear into the distance. To cut a long story short when I cane to the next island he must have been 1/3 a mile away! The funniest part was watching him in the rear view mirror trying to take the last island and ending flipping off the road into the nearest hedge. :D

At the end of the day, speed isn't everything.
Sure the MK2 GTi is a hot hatch, but its a classic in pretty much every respect. I dont think arguing about how fast you go, or who you beat really compliments the car like you should.
I'm sure all you true MK2 enthusiasts out there know what i'm talking about. The feeling you get just by sitting in the car while it is off.
Title: Re:Golf's
Post by: lewis on 25 February 2004, 16:04
If speed is not your thing then why buy a GTi. I've seen some lovely mk2 CL's for sale that are a lot cheaper than it's GTi equivalent and less likely to have been ragged, or if you must have the trim then a nice golf driver. Don?t come on here saying that you?re not a proper enthusiast just because I like to drive fast sometimes. And no I'm not a true mk2 enthusiast, I am a VW enthusiast. >:(

the best way to solve this is to just not respond, however i feel i must.  I feel sorry for you mate in your nova but i spose we all gotta start somewhere.  Good luck with your gti, if you buy a decent one then it won't need modding, you should really drive one before you come online and flame everyone, then you can join the rest of us and laugh at poxy baked bean tinned cars with nova badges on. ::)

I have to say that everyone is entitled to an opinion.  There are several possibilities here:
1. The Golf 4 Motion was parked at the side of the road when he beat it.
2. The Golf 4 Motion was in reverse.
3. the Golf 4 Motion had had its wheels nicked and was running on its discs (probably still would win actually.

I had a Nova 1.3sr when I was 17 and it had a K&N and an exhaust and I have to say it was pretty quick compared to my 950cc Fiesta which it replaced.

I owned a GSI Nova at one point and it had a few engine mods, and I was wasted by a Golf TDi.

So sorry NovaSR, no disrespect but I think you may have been smoking the herbal ciggies when you passed the stationary Golf 4 Motion.

Amen!!
