Title: Steering Wheel
Post by: Juicetin on 02 February 2015, 20:37
After the lovely thick,  sculpted wheel of the mk5 and mk6 Gti,  is the mk7 steering wheel a let down? It looks a lot thinner with the same shape all around.
How is it in real life peeps,  are you happy with it?

Seems ok to me, I did think it was thinner than the mk6 one. I am not sure which one I prefer at the moment.

Very happy with mine (previous cars - Golf Mk.5 (x 2), Golf Mk.6 & Scirocco).

When I did my test drive I was a bit disappointed with the wheel compared to the Mk6 with how it looked but really like it now.

The Mark 6 wheel, part of the leather was perforated, which in my opinion gave it a nicer feel than the mk 7 one which is all smooth. At first I thought it wasn't leather but synthetic.

I don't like the hard pointy design of the top half of the wheel - it hurts your hands...

I suppose I should be "ten to two" at all times, but old habbits etc...

I like the sculpted thumb holds of the Mk5 and 6, the Mk7 doesnt seem to have them, and i know what you mean about the shape at the top!

I had a MK5 GTI a couple of years ago and really liked the wheel back then. However I love the MK7 GTI wheel as it's a touch thinner which I feel gives a greater level of touchy feely and every little helps with modern electric power steering.

The size is spot on, and the slightly flat bottom (nowhere near as defined as the MK5/6 wheel) is nice too.
