Today i received a text update to say my car was now in transit. Under normal conditions this would be seriously exciting as the car can turn up in maybe a few weeks. Here comes the odd part...
I don't want the car yet...
It is intended to be a 21st present and that fateful day doesn't occur until April the 8th. Today after a discussion with my dealer about how to deal with the situation, the manager has said he is going to stop the automatic activation of the cool off (which starts the movement of car from port to dealership) until mid march. they didn't want the car sitting at the dealership for 2 months.
So as much as its exciting news, its kind of hollow because its so far till april

Just call it an early present solved.

Yep, take it as an early present. Nice 21st pressie btw.
I wouldn't want my brand new car sitting anywhere for 2 months (other than my drive of course)

HAHA, I've tried my best to convince my dad but he's having none of it. also, insurance for being under 21 is outrageous!!! i got a quote today, for 1st march when mine runs out and they want 2600, come april 8th, being 21 drops it to 690. so i kind of don't have a choice in the matter.

I also don't want it waiting around but genuinely can't afford to have it early and i don't want my dad insured to drive it because he will!!!
Ive managed to agree with him April 1st, using the 7 days free to tide me over till the 8th

Especially at a dockside getting seagull sh!te on it rather than a dealership compound. Take it 1st March as an early present.

I would insist that the car is not left at the dockside and the car is stored by the dealer. Presumably they were aware of your delivery requirements at the point of order?

Its not such a case of taking it early. If you look up, insurance means i can't have it early. Yes it isn't great being at dockside but it'll be all wrapped up so I'm not that fussed, if its not acceptable when it gets here ill refuse it

If under 21 high insurance costs preclude you taking it early, then as suggested, go back to dealer and persuade them to store it securely at the dealership. Perferably somewhere it's not going to be moved around a lot, risking damage.
I've just ordered an R which I ideally want from 1st Sept (for 65 plate) and given the 7 months lead in times, my ordering timing should hopefully be about right. However if it gets built and shipped earlier then I'll need to decide what to do. I don't mind it being in the dealership a couple of weeks but would rather it not be there for an extended period and I certainly would not having it sitting at the docks for any length of time, for the reasons given previously.
