Title: windscreen wipers tripping ?

they seem to have gone trippy  , the pause wipe is sometimes constant , & they don't stop in the correct place ?
tried cleaning the switch but no difference, and lubed the control arms.
 i am guessing the relay is the time & stop position control..unsure TBH anyone else had this , type 19, 1986 GTI

if your wipers are not stopping in the parking position, it's the limit switch. That switch has a feed sitting on it that ensures the wipers return to the park position, the switch then opens to drop the feed off. The wipers will park unless a feed is there via the relay.
As you say the wipers are stopping in the wrong place, it looks like the switch is playing up.

where is the limit switch ? is it in the wiper motor itself ?
