Title: Help , golf mk1.4 wont start ??

friend has a 1.4 mk4 but will not start. Battery is completely dead , and even with a booster back or jumping via another car it barely turns over. There is fuel and spark, but its hardly turning. any ideas ?

tried a differemt battery , and turns better. After further investigation there is no spark. Ther is some stupid aftermarket immobiliser , would this prevent a spark ?
