Title: Vr6 ticking
Post by: Karl Cee on 26 January 2015, 13:48
AAA vr6 ticking from top end of engine, chains and tensioners were done less than 10,000 miles ago as far as I can tell. Ticks quicker when revs are applied. Oil light flashing when ignition is on but goes off when engine is started.

Not sure but chain tensioners might be hydraulic been a While
Low oil or pressure will leave a sloppy chain....
Could just be a sticky valve or follower, which would again be worse with low oil pressure.
Best check pick up and have a look at the chain if you are not sure on mileage. How is the engine does it smoke or use oil?

So I found what was causing the loud ticking last night when I ran it and took the oil cap off! There was no oil getting to the top! Checked the dipstick, wiped the oil off and checked it again. Next to no oil in it at all! Got a lift to the local garage and got some oil to top her up for the journey home, the ticking quieted to the point where I couldn't really hear it. (Surprised I haven't blown the engine) oils getting to top again and all seems to be working fine. Going to go out now and see weather she's leaking oil or if not she must be burning it at some speed!

Yeah vr6 engines are common oil consumers.

Lol thought it would be oil if the chains were new.
I made the assumption that you checked the dipstick first
