Title: New car prices slashed!? - Or not (Mistake by VW)
Post by: chazzypuk on 19 January 2015, 12:52
I'm sure this has already been pointed out but OMG!

Anyone had a look on the uk VW site recently? All GTD/I/R models have 5K off now! Mental! I guess that mean's our cars are worth a lot less now!

That's nuts... is it a mistake? Seems a coincidence that 5k is the amount of the government grant for the GTE. Perhaps someone accidentally applied it to all GTX's/R's when they added the GTE?

If it's genuine, what about all you guys who have just put orders in??

Edit - Yep, pretty sure someone has made a booboo:

Yeah I was thinking the same! Probably a mistake as the government grant is £5K like you say for the GTE. I find it hard to believe tbh!

That's absolutely mental - but that is what the site says (across GTD to the R) - literally cheap as chips

If it is true then I feel a little sick..... Like I've been robbed of 5K! I still think it's a mistake.

Get yourself into a dealer and try to get them to honour those prices. It's a pity you can't order online and have the car delivered by DHL before they realise their mistake!

We should be due some money back, the way the Euro has been falling against the pound and other currencies recently.

Don't feel sick - its just bad timing.  Nowt you can do about it unfortunately.

If it is true though then those thinking about buying an R for example should get on it straight away as that's an offer you can't afford to not take!

I see (assuming no mistake here) that the service pack has dropped to £149 with finance. Will take finance out and then pay off in full a day or 2 later to snag that for £149.

Looks like they fixed it.

Anyone add one to their basket in time?

The guys at the VW website are now scratching their heads on how to add a government discount to just one model in the 'range':

Heh heh.

Edit - Chazzypuk, I bet!

Yeah, pretty poor for such a massive company. The whole configurator is offline now.

Yes its a very poor showing by VW UK - the website has been all over the place over the weekend due to the GTE launch. Prices with the 5k discount, some without. Pictures in the configurator without a steering wheel and gear shift lever etc!!

Very unimpressive - they should have had it running correctly before adding the new model...

this is the same VW website that between nov 13 and feb 14 who made a bit of a mistake on R seat colours

you think they may test it and test the links, not rocket science

The Configurator went down while I was in the dealership placing my order on a R.
I jokingly said do you want to take my order down on the back of a fag packet.

At the moment, the configurator for the GTE lets you add the Performance Pack to it as a 'popular choice'

Even three days later they still have the 'GTI performance  pack' available on the GTE..... they have even managed to now lose the 5k Government subsidy so price is back up to 33k...

On the plus side you do now get a steering wheel and gear shift lever!

I was chatting to a friend yesterday who runs a very large website, and telling her about what happened with the VW website.  She said it would have been a very easy mistake to make and that stuff like this is more complicated than the average joe (ie. me!) realises - however, I wasn't having any of it as as far as I'm concerned its VW and mistakes like that shouldn't happen!

Mistakes like that should definitely not happen.

The scale they are running at you have a whole dev>qa>production setup. Changes get made, tested, confirmed, set live. Day the GTE gets announced and it's listed on the site but with 404 error - shocking. Now all this mess with options and pricing. Totally avoidable.

Still funny though

The issue is its a series of errors - they are displaying their ineptitude for all the world to see on a day by day basis....

Wow, just went onto the VW site to have a look at these and the stats for the GTE are really impressive.

The Golf GTE with the highest performance is the Golf GTE 1.4 TSI 204PS PHEV 5dr DSG boasting 0–62mph in 0.0 seconds

Shenanigans still ongoing in the GTE part of the VW website - 'GTI performance pack' is still offered and the finance planner will not work - so I e-mailed them today and asked them to explain the situation and when they propose to have their GTE site fully operational - its been two weeks now!
