Just wondering what thoughts if any you guys have on fitting the brushed aluminium mirror covers from the R to a black GTI ?
-
they are about £130 each so i'd say you need to be convinced
bit bling for my liking and not sure how it works with the red
-
I know they are "R" but I actually think its the nastiest feature of the R.
After the rest of the car being quite sensible and stylish these look like some spotty twonk has been down Halfords to pimp his Nova...

Maybe you could get a swap with someone who has an R but would prefer black mirror caps (either someone with a black R, or someone with a white/silver R that wants darker caps.
Personally i'd rather have body coloured caps when my R comes, but i''d have no-one to swap with, getting a Lapiz R.
If there was only £50 in it to get some Lapiz painted caps i'd probably do it.
-
I was thinking the same thing MH. A swap would be ideal.
The silvery caps only look right with certain colours, black being one of them.
-
I have seen quite a few photos of White R's with Gloss Black mirror caps. Is that standard or only in the rest of Europe ?
I quite like the brushed Silver ones especially on Lapiz Blue when viewed from the front I think it compliments the brushed Silver trim on the upper and lower bumper.
Just saying !!

Silver/blue isn't too bad, but it's more bling than i'd like, given the option for body colour or silver. A strong contrast probably is the best look iif you're going to do this -silver caps on black or black caps on silver/white.
Black caps on Lapiz blue for me? It would have to be gloss black rather than DBP to have any chance of working, but I doubt it would work any better than the silver ones mine will come with.

As it left the factory for me ....its must be my age
-
first thing the wife said when she got home today on her night blue was caps were a bit bling and she may want some black ones as she looked at mine

A cheaper option may be to get them wrapped in vinyl? Easy to switch back too.

Plus easier to re-cover if you get a scrape or chip (and protects original finish) and you can cover that nasty bit of bling on the front bumper whilst you've got the vinyl in your hand.
Intersting to see VW have finally started to sell the R Line Golf in the UK too which looks almost identical to an R

I think they look good, but then I would say that as I bought them for my red Gti, I tried the vinyl wrap route first but due to mirror housing shape it never looked perfect. I'm happy with my purchase on desire!

I picked up a set of unused metallic black genuine VW covers from Ebay Germany at a very low price.
Will be going on my red GTD soon after delivery
"Spiegelkappen vw golf 7 or Spiegelkappen vw golf vii" are the best search terms to use in my experience

Is it only me that sees the irony of fitting black mirror backs to a car with OEM colour matched ones? Years ago we used to pay extra for a feature such as "colour matched wing mirrors" and now you are putting black ones on LOL
-
Very true but just fancy a change and black ties in with other trim on the GTD :)
-
Have you thought about getting black bumpers too? For that genuine 1990 L model look ;-)

Funny how things change, however, they week that nasty plastic that faded back in the day.
Silver will be back in vogue soon

Is it an R or R Line bugs me with the Mk7. You could immediately recognise the Mk6 R as the daddy of the golf's on the road with its more aggressive and distinctive styling.
( and yes BMW are the pretty much the same with the m sports and the M135i before anyone points this out  )

And Audis - Is it an S Line or is it an S?
