Post by: rorywatts on 15 January 2015, 18:19
hi dont know if any one can help i have a mk4 1.8t gti 2001 im having problems with the clutch it was working fine today but when i went to drive home from work i could not engage gear with the engine running and when i turned it off and engaged a gear and tried starting it it lurched like the clutch was not being pressed seems strange how the clutch could just fail while the car was parked up and i had not had any problems before

Hi and welcome to the best VW Golf Forum on the planet...

Your standard 18t clutch will fail just like any other, either it will wear out slowly and begin to slip or disintergrate and fail instantly.

That sounds like either master or slave cylinder .

It does sound like a faulty slave cylinder..
Same thing happened on my b7 a4 a while back, one day out of the blue it wouldn't engage any gears.
Changing the slave fixed it.
