Title: RNS Retrofit - Satellites
Post by: Adycakes on 14 January 2015, 21:54
Hi guys,

I've just retrofitted an RNS-510 to my Golf but on checking the GPS Viewer the most Satellites it finds is 5 - 6 out of 10. Should I be worried? Is this normal? I should add that the map updates & navigation works just fine.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

As long as the satellites ain't Russian or North Korean it should be ok!! Sorry i couldn't help myself, it's my sense of humour

Ha Ha! Not sure I'll know if they're Russian or North Korean though! ;)

When I've checked mine the most it has ever latched onto is 7 - if it can get 3 or more you are fine as it can then triangulate your position and plot on the Nav.

A little while ago mine could only locate 2 for some reason and my car was driving across no man's land for quite a few miles!

Mine doesn't seem to drop below 5, so I'm hoping it's going to be ok. Thanks for replying though, I do appreciate it!

Sounds normal to me - so long as you are getting a 3d view you will be fine :-)
