Title: GTD ordered; nail biting stuff...
Post by: PeteSoulDeep on 12 January 2015, 18:38
Ordered the following on the 28/12/2014;

GTD 3 Door DSG
Tornado Red
Keyless Entry
Discover Nav
Sport & Sound Pack
Panoramic Roof
Park Assist
Winter pack
Dynaudio

Dealer emailed me say that the car has a confirmed build slot for middle of February and mid-March delivery; showing Step 2 of 7:  'With the factory' on the VW tracker...  Can't wait!

Nice spec :)

Sport & Sound pack seems a popular option on cars being ordered here at the moment

I'll be honest; I wasn't quite sure exactly what came with that option apart from the fact I wanted those red calipers.  If it had just come with that I'd have been happy but the sound of the exhaust sounds like my TT so a real bonus...

Sounds like a great spec. Shame the sport and sound wasn't available from day one otherwise I'd of specced it.

Yes, the VW UK brochure completely misdescribes what it is

I didn't add it to begin with, but changed it a few days later once I saw & heard what it was

Nice spec Pete.

I was one of the early s&s cars and the dealer had no idea what it was. To make matters worse, when the car had arrived they told me they didn't think it had red callipers!

Was very relieved on pickup day that it was as expected, and the sales guy was amazed to hear the exhaust and spent a few moments with his foot inside the door revving away.

Hopefully dealers have better info by now?!

Enjoy the anticipation guys, def worth it - 8 months in and still smiling :)

Thanks for that Ffrank; I am really looking forward to getting it, I'm a Golf man at heart; my last one was a Mk5 GT Sport 1.4 TSi with the turbo and supercharger, also Tornado Red ,but have had various Audi's etc in between and currently driving a Mercedes A180 CDI AMG Sport; lovely car but just lacking a certain something for me...  Anyhow my partner is having that and we're selling her's, which incidentally is another AMG Sport A-Class, so hopefully that will go for what we want in time for the GTD

Very nice, this is my first Golf but could well be the first of a few (and it's certainly more individual than a 3 series at the moment.)

The merc's are nice, I have a friend about to buy a CLA220 AMG, and my attempts to get him in a Golf have failed. It's a very nice looking car, but not sure it will drive as well? Probably will serve him well for soaking up motorways though.

Sounds like a great spec. Shame the sport and sound wasn't available from day one otherwise I'd of specced it.
VW really screwed up this option some how mate. But although it's great being able to turn it on and off, I wonder if for similar money you could get a nice custom exhaust back box? And painting the calipers could be cheapish.

I do like the CLA; a lot, it's a great looking car for sure.  However for the money you're handing over (which is astronomical) for this car, it isn't that well equipped and essentially identical to my A-Class inside.  Paying £420 for DAB being one example that really grates...
Having test driven the 220CDI it feels very sluggish too and is pretty disappointing to be honest.  Had I been willing to pay what was being asked, the car would have been perfect as it only comes in automatic; this being what I promised myself I would get next, (hence the reason I'm changing).
I think coming back to VW feels like reacquainting an old and trusted friend.

As regards the red callipers I have since seen a post on here where someone has carefully painted them red and frankly they look just as good as what VW would have supplied.  Certainly food for thought...

Similar story with BMW too, what you get as standard on the Golf is really really good.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the 220, I'll hopefully go for a test drive with him and see what he makes of it. He loves the GTD, so will see how it compares for him.

The red calipers are just that too, red! No decals etc, unlike the GTI PP which has the GTI emblem. I think they priced the S&S well though, one of the better value options I reckon.

One thing I've been pondering; will my car come with the GTD keys?  Some have mentioned theirs not being supplied at collection and just getting the regular VW folding keys...

It's actually the same key but they have GTD/GTI inserts they slide in place for you.

I think it was just early orders where this was happening, dealers should be experienced with this now (I would hope!) But worst case, just check on the day and they would sort it for you I'm sure.

Officially, my Dad's GTD (the first UK one on here I believe, July 1st pick-up) only got supplied with 1 GTD screw on key base, and I had to request his second one that was on back order. I picked his "spare" up when I collected my GTD early September. You should definitely get 2 with your GTD/GTI/R.
