Title: Longlife oil? Vw dealers
Post by: chris1h on 31 December 2014, 15:21
Is there any difference between long life oil that VW dealers use? and castrol edge that I have previously being using (topping up)?   :undecided:

Reason being service manual has a ticky box and ever since car has been new its had "longlife engine oil used"  "NO" for every service!

But with this being my first service since i bought it (2d hand) its longlife they used. Now this might be exaggerating but I could swear the engine sounded different when pulling into the drive on the way home..

Theres a post in the mk5 maintenance section that says that all oil used by main dealers is now suppose to be long life.

A long read but will say everything.

My paid service they ticked the longlife oil but the previous 3 years they did not as it was on 3 years service deal.

May I ask were you got it serviced?

Thanks for that.

Something I did notice was the oil temp since the last service runs alot hotter. (Scotswood serviced)

Thanks for that. Had good work done at silverlink with our other car just dont let them wash it... and good and poor at scotswood, scotswood have been ok the past couple years though.

Yeah, i was told @ silverlink they had a few pollish cleaners (nothing against the poles) but they wernt the best "detailers" should be say...   up to now pleased with scotswood!  just had a read of that link (thanks very much!)  it says stick with the longlife oil. I was speaking with a VW tuner in newcastle think it was longbenton way and he stated stay away from the long life servicing as it messes the car up!
