Hi All,
I'm picking up my 2012 GTD tomorrow. It's got all of the toys expect for Dynaudio speaker system.
Is it worth the upgrade compared to the standard RNS510 set up? Is this something a dealer could install for me and do you know how much this would cost?
Finally, does anyone know how much the dealer charges for fitting the front LED lights? I have the rear ones just not the fronts.
Thanks in advance
Dan

The dealer would rob you blind to fit a RNS510 maybe in the region of £1700 you can get them on ebay anywhere from £400 to £750 for a older non-DAB version to a DAB version. Best to buy one second hand and fit yourself there is a how to guide in the technical section.
As for front LED lights I would be surprised if they would do that but it would also be big bucks. I wouldn't bother myself have you got Xenons already?
-
OP, do you mean it's already got RNS510 and you're wanting to upgrade to Dynaudio system? Dynaudio has additional speakers and amp over the standard system. Even if it is possible to retrofit, I imagine it would cost a bomb to do so.
-
Hi sorry my post was a little confusing. I already have the RNS510 installed with the standard speaker setup but was wondering whether it is worth while having Dynaudio installed.
As for the front LEDs, I have Xenons which I really like so maybe I'll skip on the LEDs if you think they will be extortionate..
Thanks for the response
Dan

Worth using the forum search facility as I'm sure there's threads on retrofitting Dynaudio versus aftermarket stereo upgrades, which might be the more cost effective solution.

If yours is a 2012 model GTD and you have xenons, then you should have front LED daytime running lights.
My car was built in June 2011. I specc'd it with xenons and it has LED's. I think all 2011 model year (and later) mk6 GTI's and GTD's that were specc'd with the optional xenon's should have LED DRL's. Are you sure they've not just been turned off by 'unchecking' they option in the MFD dash display? I can turn mine off via the MFD, although I think on later models it's not possible to do this.
-
Ohh interesting. The dealer told me it had xenons but must admit I've only seen the car once and I didn't really look at the lights. I will check this out tomorrow when I collect it.

That's my understanding too, that LED DRLs came in in 2011. It is right that they cannot be switched off on the later 2012 cars either using the indicator stalk method or via the DIS. They are on all the time, unless disabled using vcds.

If your car does have them, it'll have 15 LEDs wrapping around the xenons like so:

Upgrade the speakers to focal, vast improvement.

How much are we talking for a 5 door setup?
-
They only change the front door speakers and tweeters but it's a great improvement

I wouldn't bother changing the rear speakers. Your sound stage will be front biased, so the rears are only for fill.
As for the lights, making sure it has got xenons if the dealer has advertised it with them. A mate bought a Scirroco that the dealer had told him had xenons. He didn't know any different until we saw his car and pointed out it had a HID kit in standard reflector headlights.

Just got off the phone to the dealer and I've pulled the plug on the deal...
I was told the car had Xenons and 18" Charleston alloys prior to me putting the deposit down. When the car arrived at my local dealer, it didn't have the Charleston alloys on, it had the standard 17"s on. I asked the dealer to swap them over as this is what we'd agreed.... I didn't think this was too much to ask and the sales guy I was dealing with didn't seem worried either. After many phone calls, the dealer finally confirmed this morning that they are not prepared to do that as each Charleston is £665 each without tyres and they'd be making a loss on the deal. I think they were just expecting me to say "oh stuff it, I'll have it". No chance!!
Absolutely terrible service. I was willing to let the Xenon issue go but not prepared to take the car without the upgraded alloys.
Really gutted as I should be sat in it now. Anyway I currently in conversation with two other dealers about other GTD's so will keep you posted.
Thanks for everyone's input

Really sorry to hear  No xenons or Charlestons, definitely a deal breaker. Sadly some unscrupulous dealers around. At least you had your eyes open and knew what should be what.
It's worth holding out for the right one, so hope you don't have too long before you find something
-
Plenty out there with good specs so I wouldn't worry about it
-
Dan, sorry to hear the deal didn't work out for you, but I think you did the right thing.
Interesting to see the dealer was quoting a price of £665 (ex tyres) for each Charleston alloy when they're listed on the accessories section of VW's website (link below) at £393.80 each - and the cost to the dealer would be much less than the customer retail price. I think the only difference between the VW accessory version and the factory fit version is the accessory version is anthracite machine (diamond cut) finish and the factory fit version has diamond cut faces to the spokes, with the spaces between painted black. That wouldn't account for the price difference.

As charlie has said, there are plenty more out there, so the right car will turn up. Good luck with your search.
-
It may be that the Charlestons in the link are old stock. They are a Mk5 Golf wheel, whereas the Mk6 had Charleston Shadows.
-
Yeah I think the price I was quoted was legit as I've phoned a number of dealers and thy are the same price. The wheels in the link above look like the wheels on my mk6 GT.

Hi guys,
Just a little update...
Finally picked up that 2012 GTD I was originally buying. The dealer rang me and basically said what can we do to make you buy the car so that they could do the deal before the new year.
Anyway after some further negotiations I managed to get the car with the Charlestons fitted, taxed for 12 months, full tank of diesel, extended warranty and 3 years servicing package.
I picked the car up in New Years eve and absolutist love it. Totally different drive compared to the GT I had before.
I'll upload a pic in a few minutes
-
Any help with uploading pics?
-
Upload them into a Photobucket account then copy and paste the Image tag into the text of you thread on here.

If your're using Flickr for pic hosting, then it's the BBC code you'll need to copy and paste into your post.

Looking very nice  Good you held out for the Charlestons, they're a lovely alloy.
-
Very nice they went the hole hog to keep you as a customer. Enjoy
-
Very nice Dan! Bet you're glad you held out for the Charlstons. Just ditch the mud flaps and drop her by 30mm and it'll look cracking.
-
Cheers for the comments guys.
Really proud of myself for holding out on the deal. I'm usually really impatient when it comes to things like that.
The mud flaps will be coming off at the weekend and I want to do the Interior LED mod at some point too. Not sure I'll be lowering it, I prefer to keep things standard plus I reckon that'll be an expensive job.

Can I have your mudflaps?

I don't see why not mate. Let me get them off first. Whereabouts are you?

I'm in South Shropshire. It takes me just under 2 hours to get to Old Trafford, so would be better to post them.
