Hi
My GTI has park sensors front and rear with reverse camera. What do you thing about parkassist? It can be retrofitted with the actual bumpers?
http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-golf-7-park-assist-pla-1t0919297a-upgrade,id667.html
Thanks in advance
-
Well worth fitting but you will need to drill holes for the side sensors in the bumper. Aside from that it should be very easy to fit and then just code in with VCDS.
Good luck!
-
You'll need to make sure you have the correct abs pump for park assist. Dieselman eventually retro fitted park assist to his tiguan but it required a new abs pump and wasn't just coding with vcds.
-
Ok Thanks! I'll try to search on bumpers. How about your experience on parkassist? Is it practical ? Do you use it on daily basis?
-
We have park assist and very rarely use it....the additional parking sensors the park assist give on the wheel arches are far more useful.

I agree with this.. I've used park assist about twice to demo it to people, once to test it myself and once when it refused to work (the road was lined with cars both sides and I think it just considered it too narrow).
The extra sensors giving 360 degree monitoring are really good though.

The Golf is a tiny hatchback and I simply fail to see why there is a need for all round cameras and for park assist. Try honing your parking skills instead, rather than wasting time and money on a pretty pointless option. Just my opinion after near 50 years as a driver.
-
"Try honing you parking skills instead" idiot....
For your information we got the park assist and high beam assist free from VW UK due to a total cock up on our order. You know nothing about any other members on this forum or their ability.....

As I stated, just my opinion.
So no need to be so touchy and abusive. Play nice.
Happy New Year.

Have a great new year....enjoy your 7R in the new year...
-
I've had my car since June and like another poster have only used it twice. Both times to demonstrate it.
For me a complete waste of time on the parking front but given that it was relatively cheap I added it but it is useful when trying to squeeze past something.
I'm sure come selling time it might appeal to a few extra potential buyers over one that doesn't have it.

Thanks.
It's nice to be nice. Does make one feel better.
The R will arrive hopefully in March, fingers crossed.

I agree. Had that on her BMW. Complete waste of time.

I'm not sure i agree that it's a waste of time tbh, i haven't heard any real stories of it not doing what it's supposed to do? It's more a case of people just not bothering to use it, i used it now and again when i had the GTI and it worked first time every time, i would've most likely specced it on the R had it been available.
-
Like others, I specced it as it was cheap and a bit of a novelty thing. It amuses passengers no end so worth the money just for that!
However I rarely use it and have never used it to bay park yet which I understand it can also do?
And I'll also say that as I'm someone who drives a lot in the dark, just like the RVC it's one of the most useful things you can spec on the car. I visit Cornwall reasonably often, and those of you who don't know Cornwall it's full of narrow streets and granite kerbs and in summer it's very busy so parking spaces are small and hard to find. This is when the park assist comes into its own. I always change the wheels on my cars, always have done and probably always will, so parking is always a bit nervy when you have expensive low profile tyres and polished rims sitting just an inch or two above the tarmac due to very low profile rubber-wear.
Park assist has got me into spaces I'd never ever attempt even in a smaller car, it's truly amazing and probably one of the first or possibly the only option I'd tick when buying another car.
I'd think it would be a pain to retro-fit but I'd consider that too if I decide not to buy new again.
Of the things on the mk7 I'm not really sold on such as keyless (ok, I can understand it for women who carry a ton of junk in their bag but that's about it, having had experience of it on my dad's car when it locks up when you go a bit out of range cleaning the car and the mirrors fold up infuriates me) and the electronic handbrake which is half good and half not so good especially if you regularly drive cars without it, and even DSG which I'm totally not sold on now I've spent a bit of time with one - the RVC and Park Assist are genuinely useful.

"Bay Park"...??
Really..? Its been a while since I looked at the manual. Ill have to dig it out and see if there is any mention on bay parking.
Ken
-
Yeah if you press the park assist button you can toggle between bay and parallel parking.
Maybe its not a waste of ytime and its me that is the problem  because most time I will drive past the space and start reversing then think "Sh!t I should have tried that parking thing" but obviously by then its too late. Plus I usually get it in first time!!
-
Oh yes it will bay park to perfection but then you probably can't get out of the car! I'll keep parking in the old fashioned way.
-
It will also get you out of a tight parking space too say when someone gets too close to your bumper. I think it's well worth it and not in the least a waste of money. It also has nothing to do with not being able to park the car am1w and certainly not a lack of driving skill. Your posts are quite offensive and opinionated sometimes which rubs the majority of people up the wrong way. Maybe something to chew over the new year?

You've expressed your opinion as have I. Nothing offensive in so doing. It's a forum on which posters express opinions.
Something for you to think about in the New Year which I hope you will enjoy.

Diving skills Chris? You've been watching those Peugeot 2007 adverts with the van doors again haven't you?

Patronising as well! It's the way you reply in posts that irks people. Coming across as a bit of a know all like a few others on here.

Trust you to remember that. Had words with her not to wiggle it so seductively. But she refused to listen. The wench.

Hi did the TS finally get this installed? Curious is see if it was successful and works like it was factory fitted.
