Hi all im usually around the mk2 section of this forum but i am looking to buy a 2005 MK 5 GTi, its a very clean car apart from 1 thing, i test drove it and it seemed to be lacking power, when i plugged my code reader into it, it showed a fault only when the engine was running saying somthing along the lines of
camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Open Bank 1.
what could this be? would it be easy to repair if i just bought it or could it turn out to be serious?
cheers

You don't have the fault code as shown on the reader?

no, apparently it's been sorted, shall see tommorow

There's quite a few sensors for the cams, likely it's just the sensor has gone. Although if you buy it, first thing you should replace is the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) cam follower. 30 minute job, £45 for a kit of parts and saves thousands if it fails.
The lack of power, could be quite a few areas that need attention (one of which, and most seriously, is the cam follower) but that doesn't usually throw up a fault code. May be the diverter valve (DV) or pressure control valve (PCV) that are knackered and need swapping, again, 30 minute jobs each.
