Right then, where can i start, i bought this VR6 last winter, with the best intentions of tidying it up and selling it on, i owned a tidy 8v Mk3 at the time, and was fairly happy with it, then when i picked up the VR, for a reasonable £1700, i realised that it was everything that the 8v shud've been, so that was it...bye bye 8v.
the car was in a bit of a tangle when i got it, although only 1 service stamp missing from fsh, the last owner mis-treated her.
covered in white overspray from painting a house with it on the drive, and a nice scuff on the rear wheel arch, i got up on a freezing Jan mornin, n tidy'd the rear quater up a bit, but due to losing three fingers from frostbite, i just wafted over in paint, not really caring what it looked like, n apart from the wheels n headlights, thats how she's stayed.....UNTILL NOW
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a332/hardcor3_/carpics170.jpg)
now that winters here,(i love the cold) i can start the bodywork again, so i'll be...

smoothing all bumpers, bonnet washers, side repeaters, tailgate badges, wiper, spoiler, also going are the factory sideskirts, i may get some aftermarket, but probably not(can't decide yet), i've just bought some de-locked Mk4 polo handles, and managed to get a mental deal of swapping my cloth seats for black leather....
so for paint, it's going in the original dragon green, with a holographic boston green metal flake fleck, so shud shine a bit in the sun, then if i can get a decent price for the missus and kids, i'm gonna bolt a supercharger onto her, ( but don't tell em that ), so there you go, i'll post pics as and when i can, but it maybee a slow n painfull project, but it will be done for nxt years show season, so see you all there........HARDCOR3

started bodywork 2day, first thing to go, is rear bumper recess, i drilled holes about every 1 1/2in, this helps the glass to adhere & not crack...

Got me next 2 projects started today, started front bumper smoothing, got rid of fog/indicator holes, am gonna do number plate recess tomorrow.......

also got a rear stealth shelf, but had holes for a 12" sub, and two pioneer shelf speakers, so i filled 2 smaller holes with a template, then on larger hole, i cut a skeleton VW badge, and i have a peice of frosted perspex to go behind it along with 2 blue neons, thus resulting in the VW logo illuminating every time i open the doors, then added wolfsburg edition lettering, after taking hours to cut out of 5mm MDF, when it's carpeted and finished, it will look sweet...(finished pics to follow)...

Took the factory trim off the sills today, expecting to find it bubbled up to the max, but no, it was really clean and tidy, not a scab insight....Bonus!!!

Also cut an old Catalytic convertor open and ripped the guts out of it, so will get it fitted as the cat-bypass soon, see what the difference is without it, ave heard it's 1 of best things for a VR6 lump..

Carpeted my parcel shelf i made today, doesn't look too bad, the white VW logo lights up blue, when boot or doors are opened, the embossed lettering came out pretty good too, will photo it later after it's dark enough to light up for a pic....

i also got my long awaited sample of my holographic flake for the paint job, i nearly came in my pants, after a moment alone in the toilet with it, i felt much better, i'm sooooooo tempted to paint the bumpers in it, but am goin to resist temptation till it's all done, i tried to take a pic to show the colours of the spectrum it shines, but could only get blue to show, i'll try again in some nice sun, when we get some.......

started towards gettin the bonnet done today, i've relocated my washer jets off the bonnet, to the plastic scuttle panel, took me 48 mins with a phillips screwdriver 13mm spanner and a stanley knife, got to be the easiest job yet, almost as easy as fittin mk4 polo rear handles, will post pic of bonnet when holes are filled out propperly and eyebrows smoothed in, nxt week sumtime, looks better with just black electricians tape over the holes though....

i'm going offliine for a few days, due to tyhis msn bug f!rkin me pc up, but i started blending the eye-brow in today, i got it just about finished, then had a look and didn't like the length, so extended it about an inch (i just love giving meself work), as it turns out, it's coming on nicely now and looking plenty better, it's not finished yet, but as i'm goin off i thought i'd rattle can it in to see what it looks like, so check the pics, as i said it's not finished so dont judge the finishing....

HE HE, back online kiddies, only done a bit on the motor, got bonnet finished, and it's looking mint, finally got rid of those big nasty stone-chip scabs so it's looking top banana, also removed the rear spoiler ready to smooth the tailgate, but instead i'm just gonna buy a CL tailgate with no holes in the glass, it'll be cheaper than gettin glass replaced, and i can do all the work with it off then fit it, i'm gonna do same with drivers side wing, so i can stick sprinter vent in, then fit it...
Here's a new pic of finished front end....

well i couldn't wait too long to get started, so i opted to finish the front bumper, i started by sanding the openings, with some 60grit, to make sure that all traces of paint were gone, and that the plastic surface was nice and rough, then i drilled some 8mm holes, around the edges of the opening (not shown), this is so when the fibreglass is spread onto the sides, it sqeezes thru the holes and acts as extra grip, to ensure no cracking l8r down the line...

i then trail fitted them (good job i did) as the fit was fairly poor, so i held them into the right position, or the 1 i thought looked best, then stuck some holding screws in, to hold them in position, while the fibreglass dried......

after a nightmare of sanding sat on the tile kitchen floor for a couple of hours....

i gave them a coat of filler, and then repeated the process, then gave them a quick prime, outside in the dark to see what they look like, i'll finish them to my standard tomorrow, with some 2k stopper and high build primer, but heres a couple of pics, gives ya the general idea...... :smug:

got the wing finished and pretty much finished the doors, just need to primer em, startin mirror blanking plates and rear end next, got to de-seam under the lights and after digging at a small bubble on the tailgate, i discovered the dreaded rust, all down to the job not being done right in the first place, not being sealed propper and bare metal left exposed on the inside, so i hit it with the wire brush on the drill and rust-killed it just needs to be re-filled now where i had to dig it out , more work.....

few pics anyway.....

I've made real progress today, got the welder out and de-seamed the rear, while i was at it, i also cut a slit in the drivers sill to slide hammer a dent out, did that, then welded it back up, i also got rid of the passenger side, side repeater, and sorted a scab out on n/s rear arch...

all need flatting still and finishing properly, but the ball-ache bit of the jobs is done .....

it's absoloutly freezing today, car outside temp reading is 1 degree, way too cold to start wet flatting anything, or doing anymore filling, so i thought i'd do this...... :smug:

well i was supposed to be giving myself the day off the car to warm miself back thru, but instead couldn't leave it alone, so first i tidied my shed up, as it looked like a bomb had dropped on it, then i sanded the end of the drivers sill down, where i'd skimmed it over, then i started doing the number plate recess, i got that filled and sanded, and left it with the 2k stopper to be final sanded, then decided i'd do 1 of the mirror blanking plates.

so i got a spare mirror, stripped the black rubber coating of the base, then got the disc cutter in action, once it was cut away, i cleaned it up, and drilled a few holes around the outside of the gap...
like this....

theen i cut a template out of ally bridging mesh, and glassed it to the back of the hole, making sure the fibreglass oozed thru the holes i'd drilled, then flipped it over and gave a quick skim to the other side....
like so....

then after a sanding flat, and a coat of filler and another sanding session, i gave it a coat of primer, and it looks like this......

now, just need to do the whole process again, on the other side......
