Title: Door Issues Mk4 Golf GTi 2.0 115
Post by: hidenseekme on 01 December 2014, 21:41
Hi i'm new here and a complete beginner with cars, but i'm learning.

So my problem is this,

My car locks with the fob. When i unlock with the fob only the drivers side unlocks. The passengers side and boot needs to be opened with the key. The car locks itself after a few seconds so i cant leave the key in the car or i'm locked out (i only have one key so i'm really hoping to not do this lol)

So i want to fix this issue myself. Has anyone got any advice for doing so. Ive seen a few vids on youtube and they all say that the fault is due to faulty door locking modules and that it can be fixed by re soldering the circuit board as there is often dry solder.

Any advice would be great

You have to press the unlock button twice within a few seconds to unlock all the doors, if you search there are lots of post on this with guides to do it :)

thanks i've just tried it and it works

The boot still doesn't unlock though, i've heard that its often due to the wiper water pump leaking but i guess i'd have to take the cover off the boot to see?

Glad that worked, yeah take the cover off and have a look, when you unlock and lock the car with the button on the drivers door does all the doors and boot lock and unlock?

when i use the buttons on the door the drivers door and passengers door lock and unlock, the boot doesn't do anything but when i use the fob and put my ear next to the boot i can here the lock clicking (same noise the doors make when locking and unlocking) but when i try the handle it still doesn't open so i have to use the key.

the motor which operates the boot lock gets seized up. The click will be it trying to operate. It comes apart quite easily and can be cleaned and lubricated without having to buy a replacement. I have fixed a few before.
