Title: Golf mk5 1.6 FSI S tuning/modified
Post by: Madaz on 30 November 2014, 09:29
I know this is May be wrong place to put it up cos I'm new on here.

I'm currently looking into few modified for it so far I've done changed k&n panel filter, goodridge braided hoses all around and green stuff brake pad. Also order 15mm wheel spacer for all around. Already booked for tinting window on 10th January with window deflector and 13th December for remapping.

I'm looking into coilover lowered to 40mm, struct brace, poly bushes and back box! Would love to heard what everyone done with their 1.6 FSI S

Thank everyone

Is it really worth modifying a 1.6 FSI, any gains will be tiny.

Yeah I would modified tiny bit for it. Like for etc coilover, remap, stainless back box, tinting window and wheel spacer.

remap figures quote 6bhp...hmmm.... not worth the £229 quoted. 5th Gear once did a VW Corrado and popped Redex in the tank and gained 5bhp, by far the most gains from changing plugs oil etc. Give it a service and some redex!!

I got quote for remap £160 on xmas special. Man say "8-12bhp 10-15 nm torque plus 8-10% mpg gains"

Also I would love gti but I recently bought golf I can't be bother change the car again. I can make it look nicer with tinting window, gti side skirt and spoiler, coilover and nice stainless exhaust will do the job nicely.

So far fitting k&n panel filter and 15mm spacer all around.

Also I'm interesting in struct brace so what everyone used?

Strut brace on a 1.6 FSI

Save the money for re-map, you will not have any considerable gains. Better take injectors out and clean them, change the oil and in general give it a good service. That will cost less than re-map and gains are in the same region!

Why not struct brace? What wrong with them?

Cos you simply don't need one on a 1.6.... much like map on a non-turbo petrol.

Save the cash from the remap as it wont really do anything, don't bother with the strut brace as coilovers will help to stiffen up the car. Get some polybushes that will do more than a strut brace.

If you are wanting to see some gains out of the engine get a less restrictive exhaust not just the back box - I can see you already have the K&N

Cheapest fast mod of all... Winter tires.

I concur... swapped my (expensive brand!) 225 summer tyres on my mk7 for some Avon winter tyres that are only 205 wide. Can actually take it to full throttle in first and second without it spinning its wheels (which it does in these temperatures with summer tyres)!!
